On the Ranger side, Zedd turns an ostracized girl into the Weather Witch, who uses her powers for revenge on everyone who hurt her. The Rangers, being told Emily is an innocent being manipulated by Lord Zedd…immediately breaks out the Ninja Zords to attack her BEFORE she grows to supersize. Our heroes, people. They’re only nice to her AFTER they break Zedd’s spell on her. That is so unlike the Power Rangers. I didn’t like this story on those grounds. There’s also the second half of the Masked Rider preview comic, and Kat has made her way to this series as well.
The VR Trooper side finally gets Kaitlyn’s last name right. Only took you five issues, guys. Way to go. The show was only in it’s second season by this point. Do you know what else happened in season two? The Troopers finally found Ryan’s father, who went off to…I think Paris, I’m not sure…to work on new technology to stop Grimlord once and for all. In this story, Strom seemed to not be aware of this as Grimlord fakes Tyler’s energy pattern (not sure how that works) to lure him into a trap involving Grimlord’s latest warrior, Zooka Joe. (Yes, he has a big bazooka on his back. Not that he gets to use it much.) A boy who happened to be nearby is able to run and get the other Troopers who went searching for Ryan in time to defeat Zooka Joe. Maybe if this story had been longer it would have worked, but it isn’t so it fails.
While it’s nice to see a VR Trooper comic, I would have preferred a good one. The Ninja Ranger stories haven’t been much better. Continue ignoring this series.
