This Saturday is that time again, when special free comics drawn fans to comic stores in the hopes that they will buy other comics as well. (Remember, the comic stores pay for these FCBD comics even if you don’t.) As usual I’ll be dropping by Legend Of Superheros, where Billy Tucci will return as well as Felix Velez from “Cosplay On A Budget”. He’s bringing a TARDIS, I’m bringing my camera, and fun will be had by all.

But I’m not just going to record stuff. Since I’m still without income I haven’t read a new comic all year so even as samplers it will be nice to see what comics are doing. It would be nice if I had money coming in to buy new comics. Plus new comic reviews boost my stats so it’s a win for everyone. 🙂

Thus I have a few comics I’m hoping to pick up. Here’s all the comics coming this year, and below the ones I hope are still around to pick up.

  • Bob’s Burgers: I’ve never been interested in the show, but apparently the story is about one of the characters writing about becoming a superhero horse. I think I want to check that out.
  • Doctor Who: I was aware of the Titan comics run but never really experienced it. To be honest I’ve lost some interest in New Who because while it’s the same universe it’s not quite the same experience. Still, I do want to see what Titan has to offer.
  • Transformers: Robots In Disguise: So now IDW is going to have two comics under the same name? Anyway, I’ve been enjoying the show and this comic takes place in that continuity. I would have rather had someone who could write the show, since John Barber has a particular type of story he likes to write. Marghread Scott did a good job with Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters so I kind of wanted it to be her, plus Windblade is going to be making her animated debut on the show.
  • Captain Canuck: I’ve heard of the character but not a lot about him other than he’s a Canadian superhero. This is a curiosity check.
  • Avatar & Friends: That’s what I’m calling it anyway. The Avatar story focuses on Ty Lee. I love Ty Lee so it’ll be cool to learn more about her, and I like Toph, who will also be there. I really don’t care about Plants Vs. Zombies, but I’ll finally get to see this Bandette everyone is fawning over so two out of three.
  • Cleopatra In Space: I enjoyed this as a webcomic, which it sadly isn’t anymore, and I’m looking forward to more adventures with a time-displaced Cleopatra being trained to save the universe.
  • Jurassic Strike Force 5: Are they bringing this comic back? It has dinosaur ninjas. Dinosaur….ninjas! Even Super Dinosaur didn’t fight dinosaur ninjas. Why can’t I find work?
  • Phantom: Now THIS is the Ghost Who Walks.
  • Chakra The Invincible: It appears to be an all-ages superhero co-created by Stan Lee. I’ve never heard of the web series but I plan to look it up when I’m done with this article.
  • Steampunk Goldilocks: If you think that sounds lame (why would Goldilocks & The Three Bears need a steampunk makeover?) Just click that link. It looks nuts.
  • Street Fighter: I’ve never read a full Street Fighter comic before. This one could be interesting.
  • The Tick: It’s the Tick. ‘Nuff said.

I may look at the other ones, but I still have clutter and space issues to deal with and that’s already a lot of comics. What comics are you looking forward to? Don’t forget to check the list and prepare yourself. Meanwhile I’ll be live-tweeting my reviews at @SW_Tronix on Twitter with the hashtag #BW_FCBD as soon as I finish editing my Free Comic Book Day video. While I haven’t been on Twitter since January it seems like a good time to at least make an appearance if not return. Happy Free Comic Book Day!

How many free comic books is a person allowed to get at a store on Free Comic Book Day?

    • It may vary from store to store but I’ve been hearing one copy of each comic. You’d have to ask. It’s also special comics. You can’t just grab one off of the shelf and expect to get it for free. They usually have a table or something set up.

Thanks for that info. So it sounds like if somebody wants to get a copy each of the 2 special titles, it is allowed. In that case, I would be interested in the Doctor Who one and the Captain Canuck issue. Captain Canuck has actually been around since 1975. He was Canada’s first super hero. Maybe I’ll check out the comic book store here in Manchester tomorrow for Free Comic Book Day.
