Bazin’s next move on the Powell family is a bomb planted in Grace’s car, but Jason went to warm up the car and barely survives the explosion. While at the hospital Chris starts thinking about everything Bazin has done and how his family and his friend Headset were either targeted or caught in the crossfire, and decides to finish Bazin once and for all. That’s until he overhears that assassins are going after Grace’s key witness against Bazin. Although Darkhawk beats members of the 1400 the witness suffers a stress-induced heart attack and dies anyway. At the trial Chris sees his father but Lennox stops him from talking to him. Tired of all the unanswered questions in his life, Chris decides to start with Darkhawk, but someone beats him back to St. Johnny–namely Tombstone, who wants the power of Darkhawk’s amulet.
What they got right: This is the start of the first big storyline for the series, and it’s set up well. This was my first Darkhawk comic and I easily grasped the basics of the series, making it a great jumping on point for new readers.
What they got wrong: How did Tombstone learn of the amulet? I still don’t know how Hobgoblin found out but Bazin learned from Hobgoblin. Maybe it was in one of the issues I’m missing? At any rate, it’s another Spider-Man villain when Darkhawk only has one supervillain of his own and she’s still tied to Bazin.
Recommendation: As I said, this is a great jumping-on point and will tell you everything you want and need to know to decide if you want to follow this series. So I recommending picking this one up.
