The operation is a success. Guri no longer remembers the darker parts of her past, except a vague memory of Luke. This includes whatever password Savan was going to use to control her meaning her attempt to use her to control Black Sun is a failure and she’s arrested. Meanwhile, Spinda and the Pike Sisters come across the former rebels. The sisters know when to get lost, but Spinda doesn’t and when he decides to terminate his contract…by terminating them, the Sisters take him out. Not sure what’s going on, the gang lets them go (after they make a pass at Han, ticking off Leia). After all of this Luke decides to let Guri go since she no longer remembers her Black Sun past, which as you’ll recall she had wiped on purpose so she could have a normal life–which you can get away with when you’re a replica droid. Luke and Han escort her to the cantina this all started from where she comes across another familiar face, namely that of Dash Rendar. Because of course he survived, too.
What they got right: This last chapter was fun without losing the edge it needed. Guri may not remember her past but her “muscle memory” (that’s how Doc explains it anyway) allows her to beat up the bad guys anyway. There’s potential for a spin-off series here.
What they got wrong: Was Dash brought in to double-check Guri, or is this some crazy coincidence, Perry trying to tell readers that his original character survived the events of the original Shadows Of The Empire story?
Recommendation: If they made a spinoff with Guri, with the Pike sisters, Thrumble, and Doc all recurring characters. Fine, maybe Dash, too. Still, you should get this series. (That’s an Amazon affiliate link. I get a stipend if you buy it through there, but I wouldn’t link to it if I didn’t think it was good.
