As in George Lucas. Courtesy of Spinoff Online the creator of that franchise you demanded he stop working on discusses what it’s like to give up his creation and the direction Abrams went in an interview with Charlie Rose. Plus other things, but I didn’t have time to watch the interview.

I think it’s tough for any creator to give up his or her creative property…even if they received a large sum of money for it. George Lucas calling Star Wars his kids really drives home the point. I know the feeling….like when I created a Latin American History course and an African and Caribbean History course for the high school I used to work at. I gave birth to those 2 courses: put a lot of work into developing and teaching those classes. Then after only one year of teaching them, I had to give up teaching those courses because I was told I would be teaching four Global Studies classes in a 9th grade academy instead (and 1 U.S. History course for 11th graders). That day when I was told to hand over copies of my course materials to the teachers who would be taking over the classes that I created…it was a tough feeling to swallow. And unlike George Lucas, I was not rewarded with a large sum of money for giving up my creative property! So I know how George Lucas feels….times 100!
