One of the larger complaints fans and critics alike can have against a character is that he or she is “one dimensional”, lacking in certain traits that make them more than a supposed blank slate. However, I’m sure we’ve known, in person or through non-fiction media like the news, someone who is like that, and done right you can make an interesting character out of that. James Harrington uses the example of Javiert from Les Miserables and someone in the comments of that article also uses Annie from the musical version as another good example of how to do it right.

    I saw Les Miserables on Broadway as part of a 9th grade French class field trip to New York City. It’s an excellent play. I wonder what the Classic Comics version is like.
