I was planning to do the pilot review of the Big Hero 6 TV series but I found out Disney Channel has it up on their YouTube channel, so I’ll be moving that to Saturday Night Showcase and moving my intended Showcase feature to next week. So what to do now? Well, you can blame my friend for that. He’s a school teacher and a lot of the kids he teaches are into this new online shooter called Fortnite. My knowledge of the game is reduced to watch our old pal TJ Omega playing with his friends and a couple of episodes of Game Theory trying to figure out its lore. I was half-lost on that one. So I decided to just type “what is Fortnite” into YouTube’s search and came across this video by YouTube channel I Am Your Target Demographic, who made a video for those who aren’t familiar with the game to learn about it. Good timing.
This doesn’t go into the lore all that much. It’s just a brief overview of what the heck the game even is. So if you didn’t know, now you will, and if you want to know more you can continue on your own. I don’t usually play multiplayer games because I have trust issues.
My question is do the forts, buildings, caves, and other shelters that keep the husks out during the player versus computer game (since unlike the players they can’t use doors, like their zombie brethren) also keep out the storm? Or do you still take damage and die from the storm even if you’re inside, where we tend to be safe from our average storms depending on the wind? Because my instinct is wait in a structure until the storm passes. Or maybe that doesn’t work in the player versus player mode?
I hear about this game every day at work, but today was the first day that I actually got to see and understand better what the Fortnite video game is all about. It has certainly been revolutionary in the world of video games. It should have major impact upon future games. Fortnite looks like an interesting game, but it’s not something I would play. If I were to take time to play video games, I would prefer to play the Atari 2600 classics of my youth such as Q-Bert, Frogger, Pacman, Donkey Kong, Pitfall, or non-Atari games such as Street Fighter. Those four are ones that I remember as video games that I loved as a kid and then Street Fighter in the arcade as a teen.

I will add that I was never into shooter games even as a kid and teen. Fortnite is a shooter game, thus, it isn’t my cup of tea.
