How many more covers have Roy peeking out over water?

Robotech: Return To Macross #36

Academy Comics, Ltd (September, 1996)

“High Combat”

WRITER: Bill Spangler

ARTIST: Dusty Griffin

The Federalists manage to take over the Achilles but the captain stalls long enough for the engineer to sneak a virus into the computer, shutting the ship down dead in space. Choosing revenge over dying Virgil makes a run for it while the head of the operation shoots the captain. Virgil manages to get back to Earth, only to be met in the sky by Roy and his Veritech.

What they got right: Keeping the main cast out of this one was kind of necessary. This part of the story required others to be the smart ones and the captain and her ship’s designer get to be the heroes where it makes sense to. And next issue does promise Roy and Virgil get their final battle.

What they got wrong: The art is still not the best, but it is improved in parts over some of the previous issues in this arc.

Recommendation: This is still a good storyline to check out, now that the love triangle isn’t center stage.

I don’t mean to be too critical, but that artwork on the cover doesn’t look that great. In fact, it makes Roy Fokker look rather bizarre which is definitely not his normal look! That’s about as far from the Robotech cartoon as one can get in terms of Roy Fokker.
