The real problem here seems to be not letting the audience sit with a particular unexpected combo of symbiote and new host for, like, a year. Allow us to get used to the clash or complement of personalities, like Flash Thompson during his “Agent Venom” phase. The Peter/Carnage mix is strong enough nightmare fuel on its own to probably carry a six issue mini. (Hey, remember when status quo upsets were developed over a year or more, in the main book no less, ala Doc Ock in Peter’s body as “Superior?” How that actually allowed for meaningful introspection and unexpected character development fans grew to crave? Good times, man.) They’re kinda burning through a bunch of good ideas here for no good reason, like it’s 1995 again. (Except those guys did a bit of long-term thinking and let stuff linger over a couple months. They still messed up big time, but at least the readership could sit with it for a while.)

It’s gimmicks, the lazy storytelling tool if you do nothing with it.
