Personally, I rather liked the first revival. Toned down a bit because it was a syndicated kids show instead of a network family show but that requires some unique creativity.

I haven’t sampled the syndication season beyond a few random episodes on MeTV Toons, but they definitely paled in comparison to the high energy and surprising depth of the ’60s original, and even to the “Real Adventures” show from the ’90s that I appreciate on a somewhat different level (it definitely tries to hit the same tone as “Batman: The Animated Series,” without ever committing to the harshness that made that show work so well). They’re of slightly higher quality than HB’s other “Funtastic” ’80s toons, but the heart of adventure and mature morality of the original is missing, and that always hurts.
By the way, should I look up “Tom & Jerry: Spy Quest?” I’m simply bemused at the thought of such an odd meeting of two unique HB worlds from wildly different sectors, and sincerely hope it’s more than just another WB DTV feature whose biggest takeaway is, “Ooh, look at all the IP we have that you somehow like!”
