After Dropkick and Vurk have a little spat, they decide to use the Vorlexx weapon to rescue Aera. Tech uses it first, as the device can be addictive, but a slip of the tongue sends the trio to the Vorlexx’s homeworld rather than the Wold, the dimension Outrage (Vurk) comes from. He uses it to transport them to a place he thinks is safer in the Wold while they plan their next move, but a monster appears as they’re near its cave. The creature’s destroyed by Harmonica, who bears his namesake and a living shapeshifting weapon he calls Angie. Vurk doesn’t like him but they agree to his offer of aid to rescue Aera in exchange for destroying the Vorlexx. Unfortunately an army of Darkur are coming and something is blocking the Vorlexx from working. Is it the strange threesome that kidnapped Aera and are watching them now?
What they got right: The designs of the Vorlexx’s origin world as well as the Wold are interesting and unique between themselves and the regular world. And yet they aren’t so bizarre as to be unbelievable within the rules of the Ultraverse and other dimensions we’ve seen in The Strangers for example. There’s some decent action but the story can only go so far in a part one and thus far it doesn’t feel like padding to get a multi-part story.
What they got wrong: If this Vorlexx is supposed to be some ultimate weapon, though thus far we’ve only seen it used to teleport between realities, how could something or someone block it so easily?
What I think overall: This is a little far out of my norm, but having enjoyed the series so far I’m willing to see where it goes. It is Vurk’s turn to have a focus, even if it’s more about his world than him personally.
