When the comic went from “jokes based on my pull list to open reviews” to “commentary to open the weekly news wrap-up”, Jake and Leon took on some extra characteristics. Jake is the embodiment of my more fun, imaginative side, maintaining his inner child just a bit. Leon, on the other hand, is my more cynical, but perhaps thoughtful side. Both serve a purpose within the commentary, but when I need some people for them play off of, a recurring cast can be an asset.
Max will be the embodiment of all the bad gimmicks that Hollywood and comics come up with to hook people in instead of just trying to tell a good story. Other characters will fill other roles for Jake and Leon to play off of when looking at the creators, critics, and even fans, both from a positive and negative side. They’ll be exaggerations for the most part, but will serve a purpose in the topic being explored. This could work out.
As for the comic, 369 views in one day that week. There was a follow-up to a commentary I did about Chris Sims’ article about racial diverse characters being replaced by their predecessors not because of racism but because the guys in charge wanted the old characters back. Then there was an article about the Sentry’s funeral, and how writer/creator Paul Jenkins went too far in making him look good. That led to a day of the highest readership ever thus far. I had to do something to play on it. 🙂
