Saturday Night Showcase: The Full Transformers: Combiner Wars Miniseries

Some time ago I posted the first two episodes of the webseries based on the Transformers “Combiner Wars” line, the first in the Prime Wars Trilogy series. At the time it was all I could post since, at least in the US, the rest of the series was only available at the free streaming site (if you can tolerate ads…you wussy!) Go90. Well, with the second chapter of the Prime Wars Trilogy finally getting it’s release…as the toyline has already started moving to the third series, Power Of The Primes…Hasbro has posted all eight short videos–roughly 5-6 minutes a piece–to their YouTube channel. So before we shift over to Christmas specials for Saturday Night Showcase, here is the full series. Since the intro last time was way too long this one will be short.

As a reminder: the Prime Wars Trilogy series is a co-production between Hasbro Studios and Machinima, the animation studio that was formerly the home of actual machinima, animation done with video game assets or gameplay. Part of the classic fan-targeted toyline, it follows the theme of combination. In Combiner Wars it’s robots joining into a larger robot. In Titans Return it’s a return of the “Headmasters” under the name Titanmasters. And the current Power Of The Primes seems to be an alteration of the Powermasters concept of G1 days plus elements of the previous two series. So how well does it translate to animation?

The Legality Of Revealing Superhero Identities

The only picture I have of Batman 2 and Robin 2 is from the Captain America Elseworlds crossover

I didn’t realize we weren’t having a Friday Night Fight this week so I have to put something together quick. Luckily NerdSync gave me a good starting point. Is it illegal to reveal a superhero’s identity to the public? In the case presented it’s Hugo Strange who has revealed Batman’s secret identity to the world, but we’ve seen this happen in other continuities. Sometimes the hero did so willingly and sometimes not, but it’s an interesting bit of theorizing.

The secret identity is important to many superheroes for many different reasons, a topic for another time, but here are some immediate thoughts I’m having about this particular debate. But first let me show you the debate in question.

Mystery Science Theater Turkey Day Stream 2017

While the meaning of Thanksgiving in the United States has been lost thanks to people who only look at the bad parts of our past and make the good parts look bad, people still gather together with family to give thanks for the good parts of the year as the Pilgrims of old once did. Some even still invite the neighbors over in gratitude.

But one tradition everyone can join in on. Back when Mystery Science Theater 3000 aired on Comedy Central every Thanksgiving a marathon of the most favored episodes would get run, with special gags included featuring the cast hosting the introduction to each episode. This year will be no different, although it’s moved online thanks to Shout Factory, the current video distributors of the series (not counting the episodes the Rifftrax team also releases). And with the new season available on Netflix (no, I haven’t seen it–I don’t have Netflix), we will not be getting those episodes as part of the livestreamed marathon because that’s how Netflix operates.

BW Thanksgiving Special: The Mouse On The Mayflower

This wasn’t supposed to go up until tomorrow, but people have already seen it so why destroy the links? I hate screwing that up.

It’s Thanksgiving so most of you aren’t watching this right now. For those of you outside of the US you may be wondering what this holiday is about. When I was a kid there were very few Thanksgiving specials, and there’s less of those now. One I always fondly remember is Rankin Bass’ The Mouse On The Mayflower, which tells the story through a mouse who came along with the Pilgrims to start a new life in the New World. Enjoy.
