Recently, recordings were made of Tim Curry’s original recording as the Joker for the Batman: The Animated Series episode “The Last Laugh”. YouTube channel The Hamill Who Laughs posted a comparison of the two takes, adding music and sound effects from the regular episode to better compare the two versions.
No offense to Curry, who was a partial inspiration for the DCAU’s take on the Joker, but I think switching to Hamill was the right idea.
Still catching up to the year I should have been celebrating last week. The past few years have been a mess so forgive me for missing out on my own anniversary two years in a row. Every year I usually celebrate my favorite articles over the past year. This year we’re looking at November 16, 2021 – November 15, 2022.
For the late comers, while recovering from a pair of hospital stays I came upon comic and geek blogs and thought they were really cool. Some of them even had the same thoughts I had when it came to storytelling and the same interests in the types of stories to discuss. When I noticed my comments were multiple paragraphs, I decided that rather than flood their blog I’d start my own. And here we are.
So which articles of two years ago do I think stand out? It’s a long list but should give newcomers the best example of what to expect around here. (Hi, by the way.) Thus it is time to get to it.

At first I was wondering “did I do the Disney Junior Spider-Man intro like I did for Batwheels and the Batman intros?” followed by “wait, did I ever cover the many Spider-Man intros?”. A quick check told me I didn’t. Guess what the next intro series is featuring.
I didn’t catch the airing of the original Spider-Man cartoon in 1967 because I wasn’t born until 1973. However, there were reruns of this show in syndication until at least the 1980s. I didn’t even get the syndicated 1981 cartoon in my area. They just kept running the original. This would be Spidey’s first appearance outside of the comics since his debut in 1962, in the final issue of Amazing Fantasy. Stan Lee’s boss didn’t want to do the comic because the idea of a teenager who wasn’t a sidekick and got his powers from a creepy thing like a spider wouldn’t work. Since it was the last issue of their horror anthology, Stan slipped it in, and suddenly it was a great idea because readers wanted more. Months later Amazing Spider-Man #1 hit stands and Peter Parker has been a success ever since.
The first cartoon aired on ABC for three seasons, created by Grantray-Lawrence Animation. The theme song has never really gone away, homaged in movies and even reworked in some later shows and video games. What makes it work so well?
