I didn’t see it in theaters. My cousin talked about us going to see it but nothing came of it. I had to go with the original Marvel adaptation until it finally aired on television, Spike’s line changed to “oh man, what are we going to do now”. I did eventually get to see it on the big screen for the 30th anniversary but by then I had seen it so many times on TV and home video, plus owning both comic adaptations, that it was more of a novelty to say I saw it on the big screen. So I didn’t get the magic I wanted out of it, but it was nice to finally do it.
The Quintessons have also travelled from the movie to pop up now and then in various forms, and frankly I prefer their origin story in the cartoon to Unicron’s in the comic, though I did combine the two for my own worldbuilding series, which I’m hoping to get back to but you can catch up in the BW Prose archive. Also to note that the name of the film is The Transformers: The Movie. The commercials for the movie back in the day dropped the first “The” in the title, so I think that messed us all up for a long time. Blame the narrator or whoever wrote his copy.
Now that I think about it, how different would the movie have been if they went with the intended CBS storyline?
