My Not-So-Favorite Intros> Secret Invasion

I wasn’t even into the comic version of “Secret Invasion” so I really don’t care about the show itself.

What’s that you say? The creators of the show insist they didn’t even look at the comics and just made an original story whole cloth? Well, that’s even worse. It’s the continuing trend of Marvel Studios not caring about the source material, which is just alternate incentive not to watch it.

Face it, with me this show is “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”. The comic version was a reset button. “Hey, know that character you (or the current writer) didn’t want to die? That was a Skrull and the real one has still been prisoner the whole time. That other character you’ve complained was out of character for so long? Also a Skrull. Basically, if we can’t use robots or clones, we’re just going to use Skrull sleeper agents instead.” Meanwhile the MCU version has the Skrulls being allowed to stay because the Kree were so very evil…except that when it comes to the Kree/Skrull War, BOTH sides are so very evil. None of them have been the good guys as a group. So Secret Invasion is I guess when the MCU characters finally find that out…except the only Marvel characters I’ve seen from movies are Nick Fury and an armorless James Rhodes, at least in the promotional stuff.

I can’t go over the quality of the show itself for these reasons. Even if I had Disney+ I couldn’t tell you if the show is any good. I can however look at the intro and ask…was this really the best you could do?

BW’s Daily Video> Small Soldiers: War For The Necron

The YouTube channel, with just this one video (premiered live on June 21, 2023) as of this writing, claims to be official. Will we be getting a sequel to the 1998 movie (and I can’t wait to see how they explain being that stupid twice since the plot involved planting military grade chips into animatronic action figures which put them at war…and interestingly with the creators’ anti-military concept instead of the opposite that the bosses demanded) or a reboot. Either way, points for going the “space marine” route instead of “GI Joe but evil”.

Free Comic Inside> Who Doxxed The Robo Force?

Hey, I finally found one that’s been on the list for awhile AND it’s next in rotation!

For those of you who missed out on them in the 1980s, let me introduce you Ideal’s Robo Force toyline

On the planet Zeton, Maxx Steele leads a group of robots to protect humanity from Hun-Dredd and his bad robots. Robo Force also had a pilot video that I’m tossing on the list I was sure showed up long ago on Saturday Night Showcase but apparently didn’t. Or at least it’s not coming up. Guess I know what I’m doing for this week’s entry.

However, this is Free Comic Inside so you know the toyline also had pack-in minicomics. Only four were produced that I could find thanks to The Old Robots, along with other Robo Force promotional material. It really didn’t help as the toyline didn’t last very well. I guess cylinders with suction cups on the bottom were no match for bipedal robots that turned into other machines. At least now I get to finally add these to the Free Comic Inside rotation!

Hun-Dred’s robo-massage therapy business picked up immediately.

No credits for these. That’s too bad because I like to see who worked on these things and if they did anything else in the comic book industry. Ah well…on to the story!

It doesn’t help that these new crop of writers can’t see superheroes hanging out with “normal” people and thus can’t write a supporting cast of non superheroes. So it’s a mix of narcissism and seeing superheroes as gods rather than people simply because they have powers or advanced gadgets.

Chapter By Chapter> Batman: Knightfall part 2 chapter 7

Chapter By Chapter (usually) features me reading one chapter of the selected book at a time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

PART 2: KNIGHTQUEST

With I think around four Bat-related titles a month you have to figure out what to do with all your characters, even when all you have are Batman, Robin, and Nightwing. Barbara was still paralysed though active as Oracle. Nightwing’s not really been part of the story much and I’m not sure if at this point he was in Bludhaven starting his solo operation. So as we saw last time we have two stories going on. While Jean Paul is trying to force his way into permanent Batman position and Robin (Tim Drake) is wondering just how crazy he is, Bruce and Alfred are trying to find out who kidnapped Tim’s dad and their shared doctor.

I’m still holdin on to my theory (as the intro says, please do not spoil further ahead) that it isn’t Jack Drake they’re after but Shondra Kilsolving. She’s been touted as the only doctor who can help Jack and Bruce with their respective back injuries while having some potentially strange ability. Since magic, metahumans, and all sorts of cosmic events give people superpowers in this universe that’s not too unlikely. How much will we find out this time? Let’s dive in to chapter 7 and find out.
