BW’s Daily Video> Mother’s Basement VS. Corridor’s AI Rotoscoped “Anime”

My reaction isn’t as strong but Geoff Thew does raise some good points. There isn’t enough here for me to build an article off of but I do agree with a lot of Thew’s points. Note that some swearing takes place.

Admittedly I didn’t think of as many negatives as Geoff did but it does make me understand a bit more the current battle between AI art and people-made art that I am not well versed enough yet to do a full article on. Maybe when the nonsense clears and I can look into this a bit more I’ll be able to make a full-on commentary on it.

Jake & Leon #555> Marching Off

Usually it’s Jake or Leon living elements of my life, but Bill seemed liked the better choice.

Yeah, it’s been quite the weekend in what’s been quite the week. I didn’t even get anything for The Clutter Reports this week, and long story short we don’t have a house phone line at the moment and it’s making switching back to our previous provider a problem. So I don’t know what’s about to happen this week. This and all the tired and sleep issues meant I didn’t have a feature article for Friday, or a comic review for Saturday either.

I’m hoping to at least have as many comic reviews as possible, the next chapter of Batman: Knightfall, and whatever else comes my way. I’m not sure if this week is going to be March part two or not but with luck and the grace of God we’ll get something out. Have a great week, everyone!

Saturday Night Showcase> Hardware Wars

Okay, how I have had a website this long and not expose you to this? And what good timing as it’s April Fool’s Day? I didn’t even plan that.

After the success of the original Star Wars the doors of science fiction were once again open. Some were ripoffs, some were parodies, and some actually said “this is a revitalized genre, so let’s actually build on it”. From the parody side came a short film by director Ernie Fosselius. Hardware Wars follows the parody versions of the original characters in a parody version of the original story, with intentionally or acceptibly bad props and special effects being part of the joke.

Tonight we have a double-ish feature. I not only bring you the original version, but the Special Edition released on home video to coincide with the Star Wars Special Edition of “A New Hope”. This showed off how home brewed editing programs had advanced, though still not on today’s level where someone on YouTube could redo this whole thing and make it look almost like a modern movie. Compare the two as you enjoy.

Yes, I know did one of his at the start of the week. It’s been a crazy month, remember. It came up, I used it.

Cartoon Cypher Examines The Baccano! Dub

From what I could tell Baccano! is a story about immortal gangsters in the prohibition era, focusing on the mob. This did not interest me, which is odd because the setting itself isn’t a turn off. However the show is rather violent and that does turn me off. Looking up the full story didn’t help when I learned the immortals can absorb each other, which is somehow more gross than lopping their heads off like in the Highlander franchise. Apparently it’s only the anime that is stuck in prohibition era America.

Created by Ryohgo Narita, and note that this link goes to a wiki that of this writing seems to be more for fans of the franchise than anything usable for research or for anyone simply curious so I had to use regular and questionable regular Wikipedia to learn a darn thing, the light novel series follows a group of alchemists who asked a demon for immortality. It granted it to them plus an elixir in the care of one man, while another wants to give out like crazy or something. The story has at least reached 2002 while the one season anime never made it out of the early 1930s. Even when I follow this series I don’t follow it. It’s not a show I’d really be interested in. I do however find the debate between subtitles and dubbing when it comes to anime interesting, and I do need to get back on schedule because March 2023 continues to throw distractions aplenty at me.

So I’m going to sit back and let the folks at Cartoon Cypher compare the US dub to the original subtitle. They say in the video that this dub is usually more accepted because 1930s America is the main setting but the debate between Japanese and English continues. Note that the following video contains animated violence and bloodshed as well as swearing by the characters and the guest co-host CDawgVA. With that warning out of the way, curious what people think.
