In all the various incarnations of Spider-Man two performances of J. Jonah Jameson stand out among the rest, Ed Asner in the 90s cartoon and J.K. Simmons in the Sam Rami films. It’s not just the performance of the actors however. In both versions Jolly Jonah is also written as a bit more complex that “Spider-Man: Threat Or Menace”. He’s an antagonist for both Spidey and to a lesser extent Peter but is he at villain level? Author Caroline Furlong doesn’t seem to think so, at least not when done right.
Let’s see if I can get through this book already.
For those of you just joining us it’s not because I don’t like the book. I’m rather enjoying it. The act 2 chapters have all been really short so I’ve had to do bunch reviews like this one, but that’s not a major gripe either, though I have had chapters that should have been the same chapter because one scene takes three or four chapters to complete even at proper length. No, the problem is I’ve gotten too sick to write or even care about reviewing twice over the past two months. When you can’t keep your eyes open and have just enough energy to somewhat listen to the TV doing a book review in this format is rather difficult and at some point I should probably start reviewing a new book because not everyone’s a fan of this series. Granted the next one is another Star Trek novel so varying miles and all that.
As you can tell by the article title this time it’s two chapter we’ll be reviewing. One is really short while the next one is actually a normal chapter length, defined around here as being around 11 pages minimum. In case we all forgot our heroine found a bunch of barrels containing warriors whose names do not match the ones on the barrels. Joanna is here to find a spy and what she’s uncovered with her reluctant sidekick is a rather large cloning operation. What happens next? Let’s find out before I get sick again.

Nonexistence does tend to interfere with the creative process.
It’s odd how easily the characters accept their fiction status.
Over at The Clutter Reports I didn’t have much to report but at least I’m ready to resume doing stuff. Hopefully there won’t be a third sick break because I’d rather not spend the beginning of each month this year with my stomach becoming a balloon and tossing cookies. I’d rather be eating cookies. Can American cheese go bad if it’s still in the refrigerator?
So hopefully I’ll have the Power Rangers: Dino Fury review for the first three episodes. Short version: like it so far but it has some things to work out during the series. Still, nice that they’re trying to build on the lore. Meanwhile, it’s back to BattleTech: I Am Jade Falcon for Chapter By Chapter and hopefully I’ll get to finish the book. There’s still just under a third left to go. As for what else? Given how this year is going I’ll be happy if there IS anything else. Have a good week, folks!

Originally airing in 1969, it wasn’t until Sci-Fi Channel’s “Animation Station” block that I first learned of Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons, one of the many shows produced by Gerry Anderson under the “Supermarionation” technique. I would occasionally see movie and collected episode movies of Thunderbirds and Stingray so I was already familiar with the marionette and miniatures style of Anderson and his then wife Silvia until their marriage fell to pieces. I liked the idea of a near-indestructible man facing off against aliens who would indirectly attack the Earth through dopplegangers and just plain messing with stuff.
With the exception of the Angels, an all-woman air force, the agents of the global protection group Spectrum are named for various colors. I’m assuming they’re codenames or that’s one doozy of a coincidence. The invulnerable agent is Captain Scarlet, a man who fate has made indestructible. Joined by Captain Blue and led by Captain White, the group battles against the Mysterons, who blame Earth for an attack on their home on Mars. Actually, the only one to blame is the man under their control, Captain Black. Tonight in the first episode you’ll see what led to all of this and how one act of paranoia put the Earth in great danger while also giving it the planet’s best hope to survive.
