Chapter By Chapter> BattleTech: I Am Jade Falcon chapter 2

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

I may have been a bit hasty in my concerns on the page count. I counted the pages for this and the next couple of chapters and roughly nine pages isn’t too bad for a chapter. I was pushing for eleven due to the Op Center experience but we may be able to actually follow the one chapter at a time formula after all. So sorry about that. With that, on to today’s chapter.

Last time we were introduced to our important trio, all lacking last names so I’m going to assume that’s what a “bloodname” is unless someone more familiar with the franchise tells me otherwise. (It didn’t come up in the show I saw or the comics I read, some of whom predated the Clans in the game.) Star Captain Joanna (the back of the book says “Commander” so I’m guessing either they goofed or she’s in for a rank demotion), her second and friend Star Commander Horse, and Mechwarrior Diana. While I felt not enough was explained for new people coming in, I didn’t think they’d be so lost as to not move on. So let’s move on and see how long I get to be right.

BW’s Daily Video: Transformers G1 Intro in Stop Motion

If you liked that check out The Lazy Eyebrow’s “Stop Motion Reviews” on his YouTube channel. The toy reviews include skits and he also has non-review skits and re-enactments. He also links to co-creator Optimus Timelord’s “Masterpiece Re-Animated” featuring stop-motion recreations of scenes from the cartoon using the Masterpiece collector toys. As a bonus video here’s a side by side comparison of the two intros.

Jake & Leon #472: TV Talk

It’s tough to make new shows when you can’t use the sets.

Strangely there have been a lot of article in Television Spotlight but not about TV shows. The daily comic reviews come from the DCAU, Star Trek, Robotech, and Scooby-Doo, I just finished a Doctor Who novel, and very little has been talked about the actual shows because the only news has been backstage information or online drama rather than stories to discuss. I guess now that some shows are finally back in the studio and filming new episodes (while dancing around social distancing guidelines) that will start changing and we can get back to talking about the stories. And how bad they are or trashing the source material. 🙂

Over at The Clutter Reports this week I cleaned the bathroom after dusting it last week. Hoping to actually have something discussion worthy next week.

Back here at BW I have more from BattleTech: I Am Jade Falcon, and…I don’t know. I think there are some articles I want to look at for potential discussion but I don’t have any definite plans at the moment. So we get to find out together. Won’t that be exciting? Right, well have a good week anyway.

Saturday Night Showcase: The Muppets Take The O2

Earlier this week I brought you two regenerations of The Doctor interacting with the Muppets. It took place at the O2 in London, England back on July 13th (oooh, my birthday) and 14th, 2018, at an event called The Muppets Take The O2. Tonight I thought…why not bring you the full event? And the guy who collected and edited together various recordings from around YouTube even added closed captions, so everyone can join in! (And for some of the segments you may need them on even if you’re hearing’s fine. That’s the downside of gonzo fan recordings. Not to be confused with fans recording Gonzo.)

This was actually the second of these events. The first taking place a year earlier, it’s a series of sketches and musical number like you’d expect from The Muppet Show. In addition to the Doctor Who/Pigs In Space crossover you’ll see plenty of other sketches and special guest star Bobby Monahan, but as with David Tenant (the Doctor chosen by the poster, who grabbed footage from various recordings and made one big video) there will be many more. Unfortunately it also has Pepe The Prawn. Sorry, couldn’t be helped. With out further ado, it’s time to get things started.

“Yesterday’s” Comic> Detective Comics #27 Special Edition

I see this as metaphorical of Dan DiDio’s Batman 52 tearing apart the original, proper Batman.

Detective Comics #27: Special Edition (Batman 75 Day Comic)

DC Comics (posted to comiXology July, 2014)

As part of the 75th anniversary, on “Batman Day”, DC released this special comic, featuring the first appearance of “The Bat-Man”, a retelling of that story, and another story. The original Detective Comics #27 (I reviewed the Millenium Edition reprint if you’re curious) featured other not-Batman heroes that never really made a strong appearance, though The Crimson Avenger does pop up now and then.

Corridor Digital Remakes The Tron Light Cycles

Tron may not have understood what’s going on inside your computer but that’s taking it a bit seriously. Just have fun with the concept of a man being dragged inside their computer and you have a fun science fiction adventure. Oddly, while two arcade games (which did have home console ports) did come out of it, the movie didn’t become much of a franchise until recently. Two Tron 2.0 games (one being a DS exclusive called Killer App) came out in 2003 and I need to finish playing that. (I have the original PC game.) Then we finally got a sequel movie, Tron: Legacy, and a prematurely ended animated series (if you ask the show’s fans), Tron: Uprising. Oddly the series had a boost when we learned MORE about computers than we did in the 1980s. The movie also inspired shows like Reboot and Captain N: The Game Master (try to convince me I’m wrong) and episodes of kids shows where they go into the computer or even into the internet. Tron really does have a legacy.

In the first of two videos below the VFX artists at Corridor Digital looks at the computer effects of the original movie (though some of the effects were actually hand-animated due to computer limitations at the time, but the two compliment each other well) as well as the sequel movie to see what was good for the time and what still holds up. And what doesn’t. In the second Niko and Peter break out Blender to attempt to recreate the “light cycle” grid scene from the original movie with more modern technology. Enjoy!
