BW’s Daily Video Link: Aquaman Becomes Frosty

In the ever continuing trend of the live-action status symbol continuing the war on animation and being stupid while doing it (I’m surprised this isn’t coming from Disney) it looks like they’re working on a live-action version of Frosty The Frickin’ Snowman! And who will voice Frosty? Jason Momoa. I did a quick IMDB search and it looks like the only voice work he’s done are cameos where he also played Aquaman or himself…being Aquaman. I do not understand any decision in this movie.

Free Comic Inside: The Last Of The Illustrated Masters Minis

When Mattel first started putting mini-booklets into their Masters Of The Universe action figure packages they didn’t have mini-comics but little illustrated booklets that told the story of He-Man and his friends (and not-so-friends). We learned that originally He-Man was just a guy in a village who was never prince of Eternia, who got up one morning and decided to protect Castle Grayskull without any prompting while Skeletor wanted to bring his fellow skull-headed people to Eternia to invade the planet. In this continuity the Power Sword is split in half along the blade and putting the two halves together will open the jawbridge of Grayskull, where absolute power awaits. Although Skeletor’s only been inside there for maybe five minutes at a time. After the next two stories, one final booklet was produced, and tonight we finish series 1 by checking out this one. It’s Skeletor’s last chance to win. Will he? Of course not, there wouldn’t be much of a toyline if he did.

That Time Batman Slapped Robin

Who hasn’t seen this image used in memes? It’s rather popular, and I used a meme generator to make this image. That’s how popular it is. But where did it come from? The story itself, an “imaginary story” outside of canon (in DC this would be called an “Elseworlds” tale nowadays, their version of Marvel’s “What If?”), is actually crazier than the memes involved.

Sasha Wood of Casually Comics takes us on a journey back to the Silver Age to see that time when Batman teamed with Lex Luthor, mindwiped Robin, and planned to kill Superman. Strange how some of that has become canon in separate events. (Except Batman was the one mindwiped.)

BW’s Daily Article Link: The New Comic Distribution Conflict

Advance Comics was better to the smaller comic shops I tend to use.

I reference Advance Comics, the ordering catalog my comic store at the time was using, in the above comic when discussing DC’s decision to end their exclusivity deal with Diamond Comic Distributors, who releases the Previews catalog every month. That original decision killed Advance’s parent company, Capital City Distribution and as former CEO and current founder/CEO of comic and game news site ICv2 Milton Griep notes it’s an interestingly timed choice once you know more about what goes on behind the scenes and the timing involved. Like Leon said, it took them long enough to realize an exclusive distributor may not have been the best thing for them.
