BW’s Morning Article Link: The UK’s Least Favorite Christmas Songs

I am so tempted to add this to the BW Yule Log. However, it isn’t this version of “All I Want For Christmas” topping this year’s list of the United Kingdom’s most annoying Christmas songs. Someone across the ocean over there tell me how the heck does Mariah Carey even reach the top, much less beat Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas”, the self-righteous junk pile that I once properly tore down? In fact I question most of this list.

By the way, the same editor that did the above video had President Trump sing Wham!’s “Last Christmas“, which is also on the list. Someone in the comments recommended playing it at 1:25 speed and they were right. Go into the settings and do that. Trust me.

Chapter By Chapter: The Merry Adv. Of Robin Hood’s Lost Part chapter 2

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Remember, the book is in public domain. Download or read the ebook online legally and for free at Project Gutenberg, Google Books or the Internet Archive among other sites, or check out the audiobook from LibriVox. You can also use a print copy. In either case my copy may not match up with yours chapter-wise. Follow along with the very-long subtitle. For this chapter:

The Actual Part Second

In which ShadowWing Tronix fixes a mistake made by the New York Public School in 1948…I mean…In which shall be told how Robin Hood turned butcher, and how he revenged himself on The Sheriff Of Nottingham. Also of the famous adventures that befell Little John at the Nottingham Archery Match, and how he entered the Sheriff’s service.

When last we visited Sherwood via Internet Archive timewarp (because this part, which should have been part second, was left out of the copy of this book I own), Robin had become a butcher and further messed with the Sheriff. It’s hard to tell which one to root for here. They’re both jerks. The next chapter moves to an adventure with Little John. Let’s see how this one ends poorly.

II: Little John goes to the Fair at Nottingham Town

BW’s Morning Article Link: Freeform’s Christmas Marathon

Fox Family, later ABC Family, started the “25 Days Of Christmas” event that would marathon numerous classic and original Christmas programs and specials. At some point ABC Family, later Freeform, started throwing non-Christmas movies in there as well, like Harry Potter films. It looks like this year they’re finally getting their act together. While a couple of non-Christmas stuff is still coming in this year they finally more Christmas stuff than not. Let’s hope they keep that trend, and not put stuff in their Christmas marathon that isn’t Christmas. You have plenty of other days of the year to air it. Also coming this year are Rudolph and Frosty to join some of the other Rankin Bass specials. Does this mean CBS isn’t showing those this year? That would be a shame.

Jake & Leon #435: Tree Trouble part 1

The fact that she has something that can do that is scary enough. That she doesn’t know how to use it and still did…scarier!

I thought I wasn’t going to have a story arc this Christmas. Lucky for me I thought of one just in time.

Over at The Clutter Reports this week I took a look at the trade collection I’ve been using for the “New Frontiers” arc of DC’s Star Trek, also known as
“The Mirror Universe Saga“. We aren’t done with Star Trek comics just quite yet. I will however be reviewing the few Scooby-Doo comics I have yet to review because that’s what’s next in the cue for Friday. If timing were ever on my side this would have waiting until the Scoob! movie came out, but timing disagreeing with me is nothing new.

December is the end of the Art Soundoff challenge and the beginning of Christmas spotlight. I love Christmas and this site represents the holiday as best I can. There will be Christmas-themed versions of many of my usual article series, links to articles and postings of videos I stumble across, and on the home page links to my Yule Log playlist of Christmas music and Christmas specials playlist from my YouTube channel. If you guys find anything Christmas related, celebrating the magic, festivity, lore, or origins of Christmas, let me know here or through the contact page (link at the top) and if I think it works I’ll use it. I could use the help as I work on Captain Yuletide and my annual Christmas video. I might even get one of them done this year. Have a good week, folks.

Saturday Night Christmas Showcase: Santa Claus Conquers The Martians

According to my own search engine I have never used this special for Saturday Night Showcase. I don’t believe it either. Well, at least it’s officially here now. Sure it’s a day early before December but who cares? It’s one of those movies you need to see.

Santa Claus Conquers The Martians is a low-budget movie from 1964, which has earned a rather infamous cult status as being so bad it’s hilarious. It’s also famous for introducing a young Pia Zadora to the world of cinema as a Martian child. The story finds Martian children watching Earth programs, including an interview with Santa Claus. Worrying the TV is making them lazy the ruler of Mars decides to kidnap Santa Claus because reasons but grabs two Earth children at the same time. Santa and his young friends must convince the Martian leader to accept Christmas while dealing with one Martian who wants to keep his people warlike and scorns individuality. Can Christmas win out? Of course it can, this is a Christmas movie for kids.

BW’s Art Soundoff Bonus: Glowing Action

I forgot to credit Leonard Angelo among the Art Soundoff participants. Sorry, Leonard. I’m still trying to figure out the upload issue. It doesn’t show in the final video but something isn’t right.
