BW’s Morning Article Link: Batgirl’s Bat Overdose

I guess the easy cosplay Batgirl costume is gone. Barbara is doing her costume over again, or at least DC is. And I don’t have to review this one because Gary over at Crisis On Earth-Prime sums it up just fine. There is way too much obsession with a symbol here.

Chapter By Chapter> The Death And Life Of Superman ch. 15

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

In our previous installment we saw the early origins of Steel, but he probably won’t be a big figure for a while yet. I’m wondering if this is the transition phase between “Funeral For A Friend” and “Reign Of The Supermen”, as we see the beginning stages of four not-Supermans that will be part of the final arc.

This isn’t the first time, and probably won’t be the last, that we see an event, even a relatively small one like this, used to create new characters. And yet this was more successful than, say Bloodlines because they were good characters that saw good use. The characters, three heroes and a villain, all did pretty well, although one of the heroes has since faded from comics, the Eradicator, while the name has gone to be used by less-good Kryptonian artifacts. (I don’t have time for more details here.) Last issue we saw the first part of that with John Iron’s decision and Westfield’s desecration/theft. Where does it go from there?

BW’s Morning Article Link: The Forgotten Spider-Man

When the first Amazing Spider-Man hit theaters the LA Times’ “Hero Complex” section interviewed Nicholas Hammond, who played the first live-action Spider-Man (unless The Electric Company did theirs first or maybe the Japanese one) on television. I know the show has it’s detractors but for the time, TV budget, and mistreatment by CBS’s scheduling department I thought it was pretty good. I remember when USA used to air the series on Thanksgiving and I watched as much as I could of it around dinner.

Jake & Leon #369: Just Business

Actually the fact that taking my life meant so little to them would make me feel worse, not better.

Next time I try to experiment with tools I’m going to make sure I have time to before the comic need to be done. I had this one in my ideas notebook and really should have started sooner. By the way, if you missed, both BW this afternoon AND The Clutter Reports ran a video about my art corner, where I want to do most of my drawing. The laptop still has some setting up to do and issues I have to get past but I like it.

In comic reviewing this week we get to the Breetai prequel miniseries Robotech Warriors, which should be interesting. I also want to do another He-Man Newspaper Strip review and a rather fun list if I can get it in. We’re almost done with the BW’s Best FNF finale to the Friday Night Fights. And we have three more chapters of The Death And Return Of Superman in the “Funeral For A Friend” story arc before getting to the final section, so we’ll bring that closer this week as well. It should be an interesting week, and I hope you enjoy it.

Touring My Art Corner

Here’s a special bonus post for you guys. The same video is live right now over at The Clutter Reports as it is primarily a Clutter Report video. However, you guys might find it interesting as well since it’s about my art corner. It’s the place you see in some vlogs and Art Soundoff videos as well as BW Video Reviews. I’ve been trying to set it up for creating my art content, which is why the Worldbuilding Project took some time off. Now that things are ready for business (a few Jake & Leon strips have been done here, like tonight’s offering) I wanted to show it off in case any other creators out there are curious. Every comic creator has his or her own set-up. This is mine.

Saturday Night Showcase: Dr. Crafty

UPDATE> 15/15/2024: I just saw a post from Linkara in his YouTube channel community section stating that the man behind Dr. Crafty has admitted to sexual assault. As of this update I can find no details or even confirm due to Crafty shutting down the social media services he was active on, with two posts on his DeviantART comments section at least confirming the news has been out there since yesterday. You will note none of the videos work, either. Like with JewWario I would leave this up in the hopes that the works will inspire people despite their action…or at least I would had Crafty not apparently pulled his videos. I am closing comments because I don’t need my site flooded with the drama but I in no way support his actions (again, I cannot confirm) but I do hope better people will produce great content in spite of this creator’s failings as a human being.

As a cartoonist I enjoy watching artcasts and speed draws from other creators. If my system worked well enough I might do more myself but my computer’s old and you’ve seen how Clip Studio Paint can slow up on occasion when I’m drawing digitally. And I can’t even find a screen recorder for my laptop. So unless I’m showing off the old pen-and-paper technique I still have some setting up or dealing with things to do. However, I may have found a sort of muse for how to do a drawing show. And oddly it comes from an evil scientist. Why not? I worked for one on Reviewers Unknown back in the day.

The closest thing we get to a name for the creator of Dr. Crafty comes from the email address, where we get the name Alexander Tansley. It’s not they type of drawing show I usually see. The only reason I even found out about it is that he took over drawing the title cards for Atop The Fourth Wall from Master The Creator. And given Dr. Crafty’s persona I’m sure it was a hostile takeover, and Master is now a semi-sentient eggplant or something hidden deep in West Virginia. Odd because Crafty is British (although Tansley’s deviantART for Dr. Crafty says he’s in the US) and I don’t think MTC was American either. I’m not aware of the backstage events there. What I do know is that Crafty also started his own speed drawing show, but it’s mixed with humor and trivia to create a rather unique and fun experience. Tonight we’ll be meeting the not-that-good doctor, his many assistants, and the various shows he currently does. There’s only three so it won’t take too long, but the episodes are typical YouTube length. Don’t worry, it’s an all-ages show. Mostly. You’ll see what I mean.
