My last chance to draw Lord Zedd and I mess up the arms. Great. This is based, of course, on the Alien Ranger saga, where Zedd turned the Rangers into kids thanks to playing games with time travel. (And the second time, too. Rare to see a villain go back to an old plan unless the writers were either out of ideas or just wanted to do that story themselves.) I have a few projects I really want to work on, and E3 is coming up fast, but that doesn’t mean giving up the ghost on this site…at least not yet. However, this will affect the Saturday Night Showcase for a few months, but I have an idea which I hope you’ll enjoy and play along with. More on that this Saturday. For now, let’s focus on last week.
comics
- While researching for his daily “Reign of the Supermen” postings, Siskoid (link in the footer) found this article of various Clark and Lois Kent appearances…at Marvel!
- Speaking of the man from Krypton, Warner Brothers, DC’s parent company, makes some headway in their bid to hold on to Superman.
- Meanwhile, somebody damaged Shuster’s fence.
- Connecting Marvel heroes to Scripture. There is the occasional stretch. (h/t Bleeding Cool)
television/movies
- Jerry Lewis announced he’s retiring from the MDA Labor Day telethon, a telethon he started. I believe the telethon itself will continue.
- Mickey Mouse knows better than to mess with the Navy SEALs.
- The new trailer for the Smurfs movie doesn’t make things better, but at least it doesn’t make things worse.
- Praise for the Wing Commander Academy animated series, based off of the video game franchise.
- The latest Voltron Force trailer comes with an airdate. (h/t Voice Actors In The News‘ Twitter feed)
- Is a TV version of Wonder Woman really that hard to figure out?
- Apparently the US Army didn’t pay attention to what movie they were doing a cross-promotion with.
video games
- Will Solid Snake be speaking with a new voicebox in the next Metal Gear game?
- The early days of gaming giant Bungie.
- Fans of the Shinobi games will see a return of their hero.
- Universal Studios in Japan (I didn’t even know they had a Japanese presence) will be devoting an attraction to the Monster Hunter game franchise.
- A virtual memorial to a lost love.
- Take a trip through the Disney Universe.
in other news
- A Japanese model wants to change the way people look at gaming otaku in Japan.
- The Clutter Reports: One of those projects I was talking about is cleaning and organizing, of course. This week I did a number on one of the big projects by organizing the last of my big drawers. Plus the return of a favored tool for dividing things.
- This Week’s Cracked: Special effects can make a movie look cooler, but in this day of CGI the classic methods seem to be falling by the wayside. This make sense for small productions like Freddie Wong’s stuff, but for a big-budget film? 8 Movie Special Effects You Won’t Believe Aren’t CGI shows that a physical special effect can bring more believability than a digital effect most of the time.
Best Scene of This Week’s Reviews
Young Justice #4

I would have expected more than two entries with all the new comics (only one reprint and one old comic) but that didn’t happen. Hopefully next week will have more competition.
