"Hey, watch where you put those hands!"

Sonic Universe #29

Archie Comics (August, 2011)

WRITER: Ian Flynn
PENCILER: Tracy Yardley
INKER: Jim Amash
COLORIST: Steve Downer
LETTERER: Phil Feliz
EDITOR: Paul Kaminski

Scourge the Hedgehog, Sonic’s evil counterpart from another dimension, hasn’t been doing well in prison, a target for pretty much everybody there. Things may be about to change, however, as Fiona and the Destructix have arrived with a plan to break him out and form an army, taking advantage of the current events in the main title. (For those you reading the archives, check out the “Genesis” arc of Sonic The Hedgehog, issues 226-229.)

What they got right: While I personally couldn’t care less about “Evil Sonic”, Scourge has his fans and seeing what he’s up to will make them happy. I do kind of like the thought of a “prison movie” storyline. And if you don’t know Scourge’s backstory, a quick page sums up his history.

What they got wrong: The clichéd jerk warden who likes punishing the prisoners, especially the “hero”. They even use a version of Doctor Robotnik to drive the point.

Recommendation: This does have the makings of an interesting story, and probably separating it from the current “Genesis” arc in the main title is the right idea. I just don’t care about Scourge. Still, it’s worth checking out.

I like how Fiona just strolls through the fight.
