Sonic The Hedgehog #239
Archie Comics (September 2012)
“Heroes” part 1: “Team Building” WRITER: Ian Flynn PENCILER: Jamal Peppers INKER: Terry Austin COLORIST: Matt Herms COVER ART: Greg Horn LETTERER: John Workman ASSISTANT EDITOR: Vincent Lovallo EDITOR: Paul Kaminski
Team Fighters arrives at the Feral Forest, where Eggman has sent Mecha-Sally to kill her own brother. Sonic, Tails, Amy, and T-Pup take on Sally, a new giant Silver Sonic, and an army of Egg Swats, as the Secret Freedom Fighters try to maintain that secret and the village may be the real victim.
What they got right: With Sally somewhat unavailable, Sonic is taking charge and as he himself notes he appears to be learning to think as fast as he runs. It’s all action and yet they progress the “Secret Freedom Fighters” storyline. Also, while Amy still has her huge Sonic crush she isn’t cold enough to use this opportunity. Finally, T-Pup being awesome.
What they got wrong: The cover. Basic shot of Sonic like a video game promo or something. Apparently this is going to continue next issue. It might make for a good poster (I want one with Tails & T-Pup without trade dress for my wall) but it’s not good for a comic book cover.
Recommendation: I was worried about this whole “Mecha-Sally” thing at first but this is turning out to be a rather interesting arc and I want to see where this goes next issue when Team Freedom takes center stage.

Is that why you keep your friends close and your enemies closer?
