Transformers Regeneration One #90

I’m not supposed to be rooting for Scorponok, am I?

Transformers: Regeneration One #90

IDW Publishing (April, 2013)

“Natural Selection” part 5
WRITER: Simon Furman
PENCILER: Andrew Wildman
INKER: Stephen Baskerville
COLORIST: John-Paul Bove
COLORING ASSISTS: James Stayte
LETTERER: Chris Mowry
EDITOR: John Barber
SELECTED COVER ART: Guido Guidi

Hot Rod makes a decision about the “ancestors”. On the surface, Grimlock puts his plan to take down Scorponok into effect…and will make a sacrifice to do so! On Earth, Shockwave gets Starscream reconnected and Prime watches Galvatron leave with the Ark.

What they got right: Yay, Grimlock falling to his…yeah, that could just be wishful thinking. I will give him credit for coming up with his little trick with Perceptor though. And Furman didn’t have Shockwave starting every statement with “inquiry”, “response”, or other word to describe the sentence he was about to stay.

What they got wrong: So the whole subplot with Hot Rod and the ancestors. Kind of pointless, wasn’t it? Furman’s actually goofing with his own myth. Go figure. Oh, and Shockwave gets a different voice tick thanks to his/the Ark’s merging. Joy.

Recommendation: Nope, still suggesting avoiding this one.

I`m trying very hard to like this comic,I`m giving simon the benefit of the doubt, but as one person put it elsewhere and i agree 100% the real marvel transformers universe ended with generation 2,this new deal is just a mix of the U.S. And U.K. stories plus the addition of the beast wars “spark” which never existed in the comic or cartoon before,so there you have it and i predict a bad ending to this fiasco.

    • IDW has had success continuing the GI Joe comic so I guess they decided to try it again with Transformers. Furman’s ignoring G2 (which I never cared for anyway) and there are a lot of UK elements. At least Wildman’s improved since the original series.

Still, I would have rather continued from just before Furman’s run, with Budiansky back. All they’ve given him is a new adaptation of the animated movie, and I think he deserves better.

to tell you the truth i`m pretty much tired of the transformers storylines,i`m only following regeneration one as a conclusion to the original, but so far it`s been a disappointment,i tried reading the new idw stories but stopped due to many confusing tales on there, after rg1 i`m calling quits, time for something new.

from the hints simon gives on his blog more headmasters heads are lying on a shelf on nebulos, plus the constructicons are on ice aboard the ark, none of this shit makes sense,i`m sure the headmaster process included the original heads, plus scorponok`s death in the original and here was in vain, another thing was why were the decepticon casualties from the underbase saga aboard the ark?when the only decepticon there was megatron, scorponok took care of his wounded and prime his, plus killing planet earth, megatron, ratchet, and springer was pointless, simon says the reason kup knew who galvatron was is that fortress maximus sent a hologram signal to cybertron, really, why didn`t he contact for help too?too many contradictions in this comic, one fan put it this way “It`s a fu***ng mess”.
