Metal Guardian Faust #7

“Revelations” Wait, wasn’t that the name of last week’s issue? Did somebody mess up somewhere? WRITER/ARTIST: Tetsuro Ueyama ADAPTATION: Matt Thorn TOUCH-UP ART/LETTERER: Mary Kelleher COVER DESIGN: Viz Graphics EDITOR: Annette Roman
Taking Rushiha to a temple to recover, Faust is walking through another graveyard when he comes across the woman in his memories. Her name is Mitsuko, come to morn her husband, who died a year ago in a plane crash. While Comet repairs Donner she reveals intel that Faust has human brain parts like Blitz, and when Faust protects Mitsuko from another of Angel’s robots, Vixen, she’s convinced her husband has returned. Vixen has orders that there should be no unnecessary deaths and takes Mitsuko out of the action. Meanwhile, Rushiha is having memory dreams of her own, but of being with her dad and her mom.
What they got right: More of Faust’s history is revealed. While a bit fast (manga pacing is faster than anime pacing) it’s nice to get some answers and to see where this takes Faust and the plot. Vixen’s wing things are a neat weapon, but since the back page is focused on Comet and Prancer (the guard dogbot) I can’t tell you anything about them.
What they got wrong: But her character design is just a weird choice for RR to make. She had a leather bikini top with jacket sleeves built-in, punk rocker glasses with matching hairstyle, and jeans that are partly open and connected by suspenders to her top. Who would dress a robot assassin like that? Probably the same creep that gave her cleavage.
Recommendation: I’m still enjoying this series. Pick it up.
