I’m a bit tired today after shopping so let’s just let Owen Likes Comics do the work today.
The Ultimate Universe was not Marvel’s first attempt at a new imprint with re-imagined versions of old characters. It’s not even the first with Spider-Man, and we’re not counting “What If” stories here. Marvel 2099 was a project that made futuristic versions of Marvel heroes, their descendants in the year 2099 AD. I know, what a stretch. The only one to gain any significant interest, much like the Ultimate Universe, was of course Spider-Man: 2099, the adventures of Miguel O’Hara complete with his own origin in a time period where superheroes were just a memory.
In the following video Owen goes over all of the 2099 themed titles and possibly why the line didn’t do as well.

But 2099 did have a very striking costume.

I have the 2099 action figure that they released in the Spider-Man Classics line. It’s one of my favorite Spider-Suits.
Spider-Girl’s is just a repurposed Ben Reilly Spider-Man costume unless she changed it at some point. So basically she has her uncle’s hand-me-downs.

Sorry I should have made clear – of the alternate spideys they’ve done, I like Spider girl best.
But 2099 had a great costume.

Nah, I figured out what you meant eventually. Mayday’s outfit is still Ben’s Spider-Man costume though, which still looks cool but it’s the same outfit unless they changed it in later issues.

Oh yeah I knew the similarities. I’ll admit some of what made Mayday’s run entertaining is that it would halfway redeem the clone saga at times.

Marvel 2099 comics of the 1990s remains the best of all 2099 comics ever published. Also when it was first released, the fun and discovery along with the gradual build-up of the 2099 universe was present with each new issue of the monthly series of the 1990s. Ravage 2099 was the least engaging series though.
