I guess you can use this as a color guide for the characters. That’ll make sense soon.

ACTIVITIES & RIDDLES: Gabe Carrasco & Corinne Chuah

EDITORS: Gabe Carrasco & Frank Mastromauro

Before I start the review I should note that this isn’t just a comic book. The whole thing is a coloring book with some activity pages somewhat connected to the story. This is also one of two leftovers on the Free Comic Book/Comic Giveaway Day table when I went back after the event so I figured “what the heck, might make an interesting review”.

Our narrator and main character is Wormier, a millipede who also calls himself a worm. When a construction crew destroys his village, Wormier builds a time machine but gets lost in time. First he meets a dimwitted gryphon named Griff (and you’re one to talk about names, Wormier the worm), who uses his magic to power the time machine but he still gets off course. He ends up in Las Vegas and they’re attacked by a cat named Sparkles, who has had enough of time travel shenanigans and attacks our heroes until she learns what happened to Wormier’s village and lets them go. In their next location, the pair meet up with frogs who shove them into portals and into a bar with a bunch of misfits. After finally getting the machine fixed, the pair end up in front of a dragon but otherwise where Wormier has been headed. The dragon takes them to I’m guessing someone named Raineris, but meeting his idol (plus I imagine everything else he’s been through all day, ending up in someone’s mouth constantly) makes him pass out. He wakes up with two floating arms that move with his front legs.

What they got right: What a fun idea, a comic that’s also a coloring & activity book. The cover features enough characters for the kids to know how to color them, with a couple they can guess for themselves. Plus it’s a full comic story with delightful characters for the kids, even the jerk characters.

What they got wrong: For the age group I assume this is for, no real complaints.

What I think overall: While not a series I’d get for myself, and I only picked this one out out of curiosity and for review, it’s a good comic for the target audience, who usually gets watered down insults as comics. Just make sure they don’t go coloring in other comics, even the black & white ones.
