Saturday Night Showcase: History Of The Home Video Format Wars

From VHS to streaming online, the history of home video is quite interesting to see how far technology has come to bring us movies, television shows, documentaries, and whatever else. While there are minor format you may never have heard of, a few became dominant and some of those fought other formats to survive. Whatever happened to laserdiscs and HD-DVDs, and those are just the formats you’ve most likely heard of. What caused the rise of the video rental store, and their downfall. Is it better to have a physical copy or just stream it from the internet?

The crew at Midnight’s Edge are joined by Bill Hunt, founder of the website The Digital Bits, in an examination of the history of home video entertainment. Note that there may be some swearing in this one, but it doesn’t take away from how business and technology affected how we consume video entertainment.

Friday Night Fights: Jazz Versus PETA

At least if the IDW Predacons were shown to still have animal alt modes.

It’s time for a new Friday Night Fight tournament. The rules are simple: grab a comic at least six months old, find a good fight, and compare it to offerings by the other competitors. These days it’s just for bragging rights and there’s only three of us regularly taking part, but it’s still fun. Tonight the best fight of the week was rather easy. It’s Jazz being awesome, with a little help from Tracks. I’m not showing how they took down all the Predacons but I will show you how four of them went down. You’ll have to get the comic or see if I come back to this in a later fight.

Crocodile Dundee Junior Not Getting A Movie

Have you seen the trailers for a movie called Dundee, about the son of Crocodile Dundee? Well, it’s right above this paragraph. Have a look. Does this sound like something you want to see?

Well that’s too bad isn’t it? Apparently this movie doesn’t really exist. I’ll show you the explanation from Midnight’s Edge After Dark (warning: bad language happens) as to what this is really all about. Also, learn that certain people hate the original movies, despite having the perfect name for a Dundee enemy/ripoff.
