BW’s Morning Article Link: Fate Of The Caped Crusaders

Adam West is about to join the list of movie actors whose final movie will come out after their passing. (The list includes Heath Ledger, a different Joker.) After the success of Return Of The Caped Crusaders, the animated movie that reunited West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar, a second movie was recorded, this time with William Shatner playing a ’66-inspired Two-Face. (One episode did have a master of disguise named False Face, to clear up any false memories of there being a ’66 Two-Face already. This is also in league with what the Batman ’66 comics have been doing, reinterpreting villains who weren’t on the show in the show’s style. I wonder if they did the Killer Moth from the Batgirl “pilot” or went with their own design?) Well, one website is reporting that this cartoon will be completed. Even in animation I assume it will be the last movie featuring Adam West’s Batman because nobody can do it like he did. The tie-in comics may continue on though. I just hope West’s recording is good enough and stays that way.

He-Man Comic Strips: Vengeance Of The Viper King

Chris Weber took over starting this storyline, and he would remain the writer for the rest of the strip’s run. One change that I noted in this issue is that it feels even less like it’s trying to match the show, and just sticks with things that Filmation, Marvel’s Star Comics, and the minicomics have made into multiversal canon, like the Sorceress’s bird motif and transformation, plus Man-At-Arms having a mustache. (The toys and previous comics didn’t have a mustached Man-At-Arms.) And Snake Mountain matches the show instead of the toy, which will be important later.

And as I guessed the Snake Men will be making their debut in this comic. We’ve already seen two different takes on the Snake Men. This would be the second take, the first being the mini-comic, so what will be done differently this time the Snake Men re-invade Eternia?

And if you don’t remember from the introductory article, Willson is Webber’s wife. Does that qualify as sleeping with your boss?

BW’s Morning Article Link: Jim Galton Passes Away

“Who is Jim Galton” you may ask? So did I when I saw the e-newsletter come in from ICv2, but it turns out Galton, CEO of Marvel from the 1970s to just before Marvel’s crash in 1990s, may be the guy who save it from collapse in the 1970s. (A popular story is that getting the Star Wars license basically saved Marvel Comics Group.) So his passing is worth nothing. He was also something Marvel and other comic creators needs now, somebody who saw comics as being as important as every other media format. That always sits well with me. All media formats have their strengths and weaknesses.

The New Ducktales Intro

DuckTales

DuckTales (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I was looking at Facebook today after getting my hair cut and saw that Disney XD has released their intro for the upcoming reboot of Ducktales, the cartoon based on the comic Uncle Scrooge, although on TV everyone knows it by the other name. You know how I feel about intros by now; I have a whole article series devoted to them, and I’ve complained more than once that modern intros are kind of weak. It’s just a logo and some music (we didn’t even get that with Ultimate Spider-Man). The Ducktales intro is rather special.

The show was popular enough to still evoke nostalgia to this day. The theme song gets stuck in your head, and it’s a welcome visitor. It’s that big. That means the intro itself in this case is important to win over any lingering fans of the old show still questioning the reboot while fans who have embraced the new version need to be assured they haven’t been doing so in vain. So let’s compare the intros and see if it succeeds. We’ll be using the original intro, before the addition of Gizmoduck and Bubba, because the original intro tends to be the one everyone remembers. It’s the same song either way.

So remember when the internet freaked out over Zendaya playing Spider-Man? That was one even I defended. Surprising, I know. Well, Nerdist has learned who the KC Undercover star will be playing in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Warning, this link has spoilers!
