“Who is Jim Galton” you may ask? So did I when I saw the e-newsletter come in from ICv2, but it turns out Galton, CEO of Marvel from the 1970s to just before Marvel’s crash in 1990s, may be the guy who save it from collapse in the 1970s. (A popular story is that getting the Star Wars license basically saved Marvel Comics Group.) So his passing is worth nothing. He was also something Marvel and other comic creators needs now, somebody who saw comics as being as important as every other media format. That always sits well with me. All media formats have their strengths and weaknesses.

Last night, I googled Jim Galton’s name, and I found an article by Jim Shooter (from his blog) strongly criticizing Jim Galton about what he did at Marvel. You might want to take a look at that. Now I’m not saying that I agree with Jim Shooter. Just letting you know that there’s another perspective from a different Marvel leader of that time period.
