BW’s Morning Article Link: Is The DC Extended Universe Finally Getting It?

Time will tell, but Screen Crush’s Matt Singer reports on a comment by Geoff Johns that perhaps they’re realizing DC is supposed to be the fun universe after the success of Wonder Woman as well as the  CW DCU, and hopes that Joss Wedon can lighten up Justice League in post-production after Zack Snyder took a leave because of his daughter passing away. (Although he won’t do much. It’s still Snyder’s movie and it’s not like Snyder was kicked off; he left due to tragedy.) My heart goes out to Snyder and his family at this time but he and David S. Goyer just aren’t a good fit for a DC Universe, or at least not the one I grew up with. Maybe the DC comics universe isn’t the only one experiencing a “rebirth”?

Yeah, we’ll wait and see about that. After all I’m still not trusting the Rebirth to the people who darkened things up in the first place starting with Identity Crisis.

Jake & Leon #321: Gotham City AC

Can you guess the heat is playing havoc in the attic HQ?

I can only imagine what Summer is going to bring to BW Attic HQ.

For the Clutter Reports this week I finally took the time to shred some papers. About three or four years worth of papers, and last year’s medical issues can’t really defend me this time.

In this week’s comic reviews: who here has heard of Anima? Apparently she’s a DC hero and our next Zero Hour Aftermath story. I don’t think I saw her before or since this issue. DC also takes over the Skull Cave as I start looking at their run of The Phantom while the next Transformers miniseries from IDW, Escalation, begins. In the early years of IDW’s run it was all miniseries, “Spotlight” specials, and stories set in the Michael Bay movieverse. Bay says he’s done with the movies after The Last Knight but we thought that after Dark Of The Moon and were disappointed he continued on rather than turning it over to someone who actually cares about Transformers. I mean despite all my problems with IDW currently I can’t say they aren’t into Transformers, just that I don’t like where they took their universe and some of the influences they’re having on the toys and other continuity. Bay on the other hand is just a train wreck that keeps running into other trains like some bad comedy when it comes to his Transformers and I’m happy with the Robots In Disguise cartoon, when Cartoon Network remembers they have it.

And that’s all for this week. More Seduction Of The Innocent tomorrow.

Saturday Night Showcase: Full Metal Panic

What happens when a paramilitary group is assigned to protect a teenage Japanese girl undercover? Apparently you send the worst possible teenage soldier you have at your disposal, someone so military that he wouldn’t fit in at West Point, to protect a tsundere who doesn’t know she’s a supergenius. That’s the comedy and action behind the Full Metal Panic franchise. Tonight I bring you the first in the series, simply titled Full Metal Panic. And since I’m running late tonight we’ll just jump right into the action. Fun fact: the production group for this show was named after the organization in the show, or possibly vice versa. Watch for some mild language and suggestions, plus some serious gunplay with a giant mecha suit. This one is not kid-friendly folks.

Friday Night Fight: Bat-Brains Over Bat-Brawn

This isn’t an easy announcement for me to make, but I kind of have to. Ever since this site started I’ve taken part in the Friday Night Fights. It was one of the reasons I wanted a blog, seeing all the people participate in the tournament created by Bahlactus (I can’t link to his site because it doesn’t exist anymore) and taken over by Spacebooger just as BW Media Spotlight began. It was a way to promote myself and to go over my collection. The prizes added to the Prize Fight was a nice bonus but it’s not why I joined and its stopping has no bearing on my decision. I wanted to take part in the event and get to read through my old collection.

But there have been some changes. I have Scanning My Collection and “Yesterday’s” Comic to go through the collection, while Friday Night Fights have taken on themes, some of which I’ve had trouble keeping up with. For example, the new tournament starting up is requesting all fights have the theme of summer. I have maybe four comics I can immediately recall that could fit the theme and I’ve used at least two of them already in previous fights. I’m no good with themes, because I don’t know my collect that well. It’s why I’m going through my old comics, some of which have only been read once since I got them while others have been read until the covers were a mess. It was fine for the Prize Fight but for a full tournament I don’t always know if I can commit. For example, the fight I’m showing tonight was prepared before I realized it didn’t match the “Karate Kick” theme and has been waiting in the draft folder for a time I could use it, but no theme has allowed for it.

Does that mean I’ll never take part again? No. If theme is one I can work with, or even if I come across a comic that would work for this tournament, I’ll gladly write some more entries. And I don’t want to ruin it for the other participants simply because I can’t handle the theme involved. So until that happens this is my last regular posting for…

But since it doesn’t match the theme I can’t call it an official entry.

“Yesterday’s” Comic> The Phantom #72

“No, Devil, she’s not responsible for the writing on the cover, the comic’s previous owner is!”

Despite the two titles this is a full-length Phantom story. No unconnected side stories or various lessons needed for the story; just one tale featuring the Ghost Who Walks and his fiance.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Fate Of The Caped Crusaders

Adam West is about to join the list of movie actors whose final movie will come out after their passing. (The list includes Heath Ledger, a different Joker.) After the success of Return Of The Caped Crusaders, the animated movie that reunited West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar, a second movie was recorded, this time with William Shatner playing a ’66-inspired Two-Face. (One episode did have a master of disguise named False Face, to clear up any false memories of there being a ’66 Two-Face already. This is also in league with what the Batman ’66 comics have been doing, reinterpreting villains who weren’t on the show in the show’s style. I wonder if they did the Killer Moth from the Batgirl “pilot” or went with their own design?) Well, one website is reporting that this cartoon will be completed. Even in animation I assume it will be the last movie featuring Adam West’s Batman because nobody can do it like he did. The tie-in comics may continue on though. I just hope West’s recording is good enough and stays that way.
