BW’s Daily Video> The Further Fall Of The X-Men

It’s Just Some Guy, so you know there’s swearing.

As I went over a couple of years ago, the X-Men are not a very good bigotry analog because outside of the origin of their powers (Stan coming up with a way to be lazy, and just using bigtroy as a storytelling platform for “the world outside your window” rather than social commentary) nothing really separates them from the guys who build their powers in a cave, or came from space, or just had their powers come from space…I mean, a good third of Marvel’s superheroes can thank some form of radiation and they tried to blame that for the “X-Gene” for a while as well, the whole “children of the atom” thing. I also went over more recently why Kamala Khan is a mutant now. I’m also annoyed they killed Jubilee. I like Jubilee but it seems like since the cartoon ended they really did her dirty, like that time she was a vampire after losing her mutant powers.

I was never an X-Men fan, but everything I’ve heard about what Perch calls the “Krakoa Era” from various reviewers kind of makes me glad I’m not.

Chapter By Chapter> Batman: Knightfall part 2 chapter 12

Chapter By Chapter (usually) features me reading one chapter of the selected book at a time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

PART 2: KNIGHTQUEST

Only seven pages this chapter but I only have so much time tonight to get this done. A quick skim tells me the whole chapter is just Bruce’s search for his doctor and his sidekick’s dad, but we aren’t ending it this chapter.

In the last chapter we saw the end results of Jean Paul Not-Batman’s fight with Bane before returning to Bruce (aka Sir Hemingford) and Alfred (Charlie) continuing the investigation, with Bruce on stakeout and Alfred racing to help the still injured Bruce in case he’s found out. It is good to see that Bruce is still of strong mind even if his body is weak. There was a show called Ironside as part of the 1970 TV cop craze, starring Raymond Burr as a former chief of detectives paralyzed by a sniper’s bullet. He got around in a wheelchair and served as a police consultant. I could imagine Bruce taking on a similar role not for the Gotham City police but the Bat-Family, kind of like Barbara did as Oracle or like Bruce himself did to Terry in Batman Beyond.

Then again, that wasn’t the story they wanted to tell and Warner Brothers was going to use the Bruce Wayne Batman regardless so even if Jean Paul wasn’t psycho he wouldn’t be Batman for long anyway. Still, you kind of wonder what would have happened. Maybe he and Barbara could be wheelchair buddies. BUDDIES, BRUCE TIMM! JUST BUDDIES! Then again, two wheelchair-bound members of the team might be a bit much, so let’s just see how Bruce gets out of this situation without his Bat-Gear.

BW’s Daily Video> Corridor Crew Makes Fake UFO Footage

Here’s the debunking video where they tried to fool Sam, Niko, and Wren with the previous fake footage.

Jake & Leon #566> Disney’s Next Step

You can’t tell from my art style, but those are supposed to be photorealistic.

I actually had to reupload that because I messed up a setting and the suited guy in panel three was invisible.

Over at The Clutter Reports this week I began redoing the Comics For Sale section of the site.

I’ve got one more physical comic that isn’t Ninja Turtle or Sonic The Hedgehog related and then I need to figure out what’s going up on Fridays. Meanwhile we have another installment of the Many, MANY Intros of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Chapter By Chapter review of Batman: Knightfall to deliver. Plus, Professor Doc has added a bit of previously unwatchable footage to his collection of the lost Power Masters pilot. No audio and sped up a bit but if you haven’t seen the show before, I wrote an article about when all that could be found was the intro, and this Saturday Night Showcase is a good way to learn about this not-Transformers series.

Have a great week, everyone! Now what do I do for next Friday?

Saturday Night Showcase> Red Planet

Based on the 1949 novel by Robert Heinlein, the guy behind Starship TroopersRed Planet is a three episode miniseries that aired on Fox Kids Saturday Morning lineup in 1994. Set on the colony of New Ares (just plain old Mars in the original novel), the story follows two kids, Jim and PJ Marlowe, who are part of a mining colony run by an organization only referred to as “The Company”. They’re mining a rather important ore (the reason why is never stated and is basically a McGuffin anyway) but the miners are getting sick. The kids’ mother, the local doctor, wants to shut the mines down to investigate but the Company’s liaison, only referred to as “The General” (I’m seeing what’s referred to as “a pattern”), wants the mines open no matter who gets hurt in the process.

New Ares is a desert death trap, thanks to the sand beasts and “water seekers” running around but there’s another lifeform on the planet, and Jim makes friends with him, naming him “Willis”. Together, the kids and their parents must overcome the Company’s actions before the mining colony is destroyed…but Willis isn’t the only native involved. Enjoy!

“Yesterday’s” Comic> The Blue Beetle #19

Of all the villains between Fox and Holyoke they could have gone with…WHY THIS JACKASS?!?!?!?!!?

The Blue Beetle #19

Holyoke Publishing (March, 1943)

No, seriously, why him? You only have two Blue Beetle stories this issue for some reason (it’s his comic) and you waste one on Dascomb Dinsmore? Really?

On the upside, no Likkity Split and no wishing kid.  As mentioned, only two Blue Beetle stories so his third story has been replaced with a reprint from another comics. Were they slowly pulling Blue Beetle out of his own comic book? Considering how things went with comic names and numbering back in the Golden Age I wouldn’t put it past them.

Read along with me here.
