DC’s League Of Super-Pets Movie–What They Got Wrong

Before you start yelling at me about “kids movie” or “hasn’t come out yet” please know this isn’t some angry rant. I’m not angry, just disappointed. The big problem is being a symptom of a larger issue. I’m not hating on a movie I haven’t seen or something not “made for me” (the hell it isn’t…I may not be the target age group, but I’m the guy watching Paw Patrol so you don’t decide what my tastes are), but I am seeing a huge mistake in something that will affect their brand history.

WarnerMedia and DC Entertainment never cease to amaze me with how little they care about their own properties. When I heard they wanted to make a Krypto the Superdog movie with all his superpet friends I was…at least curious. I may be too old for a kids movie but when has that stopped me? I watch what I like and while I’m not tightly linked to DC’s superpet history I did want to see what take they were going to make for it. I did grow up with Krypto in reruns of Filmation’s The New Adventures Of Superman as part of the flashback Superboy segments, from the days when they were the adventures of Superman as a teen. I did see modern stories that used Krypto and his animal friends. Seeing a new generation exposed to Krypto and the super animal buddies he was created alongside like Ace the Bathound was something I was looking forward to.

Then in my continued push through my YouTube backlog I came upon the trailer for DC League Of Super-Pets, a computer animated movie in which Krypto and friends have to save the Justice League from yet another Lex Luthor scheme. Sounds good…then I saw the other pets and had to ask…who are these guys?

BW’s Daily Article Link: The Reality Of Fantasy

The battle between reality and believability continues to be a hassle for modern science fiction, but even fantasy is a victim of this cynical “reality” invading storytelling. Author James Harrington is a fantasy author and fan, so his commentary on the current invasion of his favorite genre is worth a read.

Chapter By Chapter> Star Trek: Prime Directive part 3 chapter 11

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Part 3: Talin chapter 11

We’re very close to the end, and barring the usual life issues we may finish this by some time in February, which is only a feat because this is a weekly feature. Last time we learned one of our guest characters wasn’t so much a traitor as much as a self-interested twit who had an agenda in being silent. And look what happened. It was the closest thing we had to an actual Prime Directive discussion and it was all about “I want to meet the people noooooooooowwwwwwww!!!!! I wanna I wanna I wanna”.

I’m hoping this chapter we’ll get down to the investigating and find out if this is one of the show’s usual baddies, some new baddie, or someone who hadn’t planned on being the villain and kind of fell into it. I’m guessing the middle one, probably someone who cared more about their goals than the planet and “blow everything to blazes” wasn’t the actual game plan. Or maybe it was. Let’s see if we find out.

BW’s Annual “I Have A Dream” Speech Posting

Shame we seem have decided to kill that dream by separating ourselves by what crayon we use in the coloring book of the human race again. I always hang on the parts about judging by character and not skin color, but now we see skin color and immediately judge, creating a new form of segregation built on that bitterness and hatred King preached against. If white and black kids join hands you shouldn’t be surprised if they date, marry, and have children, yet we do and rather than support this as proof we can come together biracial kids are told to ignore half of what they are, even when they were conceived by two people who love each other and didn’t care what shade of melanin they had any more than they cared about their hair color or eye color. It’s time to end the race war (which is about fighting the race war, not racism) while still opposing racism for the stupidity it is and embrace race peace, and that something everybody needs to realize regardless of color. King preached against those things that kept the black people down but also wanted unity between all races as God’s children. If you don’t support both you don’t chase the Dream.

Happy Martin Luther King Day. I’m off the soapbox now.

Jake & Leon #153: Hello, 2022

Of course this year it was mental health, because my body finds new ways to attack me.

Not that great a comic but given how long it’s been I’ll take it.

Over at The Clutter Reports this week I have a better return to form as I organize the various paper I use for comics and other art projects. Or at least hope to use this year. It’s the first step in Operation: A Place For Everything, which I mentioned in the v-log and came up with the name last week.

So, this week we get closer to the end of Star Trek: Prime Directive for Chapter By Chapter. I already have a review ready to go for Tuesday since I finally saw the trailer for DC’s League Of Super-Pets and I’m not angry, just disappointed in the lost potential. I’ll get into it then. I’m not sure what else I’ll have this week but it’s nice to be back to what passes for normal. There’s still going to be a bit of dust but I’m sure it will be worth checking in for. Have a great week, everyone!
