Breaking the fourth wall is fine. Just make sure you can repair it later.
Have you seen the trailer for the Golden Axe adaptation? The one that can’t stop pointing out how silly video game mechanics are in a real life version of that world? Meanwhile, a bunch of anime, even ones that don’t involve being trapped in a video game Tron style, has found a way to make RPG mechanics make sense, or at least enough to know where the inspiration for the magic system comes from. That’s what celebrates writers from hacks.
