BW’s Daily Article AND Video Link: The Last Time Colonel Potter & Major Winchester Met

Harry Morgan played Colonel Sherman T. Potter on the popular M*A*S*H series while David Ogden Stiers played Major Charles Emmerson Winchester III. The characters didn’t get along but by the time the Korean War was over they were still somehow friends. Their interactions led to some fun moments in the show.

However, there was another show where they teamed up, at least in a cameo that never aired during the show’s original run as it was cut short. MeTV discusses the show Love & Money, where Stiers played the father of one of the main characters, and the unaired cameo that was also Harry Morgan’s final TV appearance. Luckily the episode did air on Canadian TV and someone uploaded the series to YouTube, including the unaired episodes. So at least this important moment is available to be seen.

Chapter By Chapter #17 Revealed

For the last Chapter By Chapter review set I had trouble choosing from one of three books, and put it up for a vote. I still don’t know why I can’t get audience participation or feedback most of the time but the only one who voted was a friend of mine who has been trying to get me to review a Doctor Who novel so The Time Travellers won out rather easily. That left two books and I decided to choose the next one. It’s the only part of this franchise I haven’t reviewed, not counting the video games since all I have is a demo of one of them. This basically completes the franchise for now, unless I get more comics in the future or discuss the cartoon further for whatever reason.

BattleTech is a tabletop RPG in the sci-fi mold. When it came out in the 80s Dungeons & Dragons and those inspired by it were the ones you heard about so when I saw the ads in comics the idea of a science fiction role-playing game was new to me. Also grabbing my attention were the ads using the destroids from Robotech, those disposable mecha that you never heard much about because none of the main characters used them when they had transforming planes to fly, were used in the ad. Harmony Gold got wind of this and had a fit, forcing FASA to come up with original mech designs, and it was probably the best thing for them. It led to comics, video games, a cartoon, and novels like the one I’m reviewing this round. Our seventeenth book in the Chapter By Chapter review series is…

Jake & Leon #470: Good News Texting

It turns out Frenchians are not affected by Covid-19. Fire and blunt objects they’re still allergic to.

It’s time to get the comic back on its normal style. If Connecticut closes down again, as the death plague is supposed to make a comeback along with the flu because we’re still pretending we know anything about it, the comic will not follow suit. I had my fun but it’s time for something to be back to normal. It might as well be my comic.

Over at The Clutter Reports this week I did my full review of Doctor Who: The Time Travellers and the new Chapter By Chapter book review will be announced tomorrow. Otherwise I’m just going to go with the flow this week and see what I feel like discussing. Hopefully you will still enjoy it. Have a good week, folks!

Saturday Night Showcase: Spaceballs

I don’t know if this will work on older computers. I remember having issues with Masters Of The Universe when I tried to make that movie a Saturday Night Showcase some years ago. (Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be officially up so watch this one as fast as you can.) This is from the official YouTube movies channel, where they partner with movie owners to legally post the films ad-sponsored rather than the illegal uploads. So my apologies if it’s not working for you. For the rest of you…I bring you Spaceballs!

I probably don’t have to go into this movie with the audience for this site. While Mel Brooks is admittedly not a science fiction fan himself he still decided to produce this sci-fi parody. Most of the gags are a playful homage to the Star Wars movies there are elements of Star Trek, Alien, and even a few non-sci-fi moments. This is an example of doing a parody right, a tribute rather that today’s tear-downs. Sadly we never did get a sequel, just a crap cartoon that aired on G4 and despite having Mel Brooks, Daphne Zuinga, and Joan Rivers, two of the three of them being legends of comedy and the first one responsible for the movie, the comedy and parody was very low par.

Since this is a Mel Brooks movie there is swearing and the occasional raunchy joke but overall it’s enough of a beloved classic that the moment it came up in my suggestions (having just been posted to YouTube on October 1st), I knew it had to be tonight’s showcase. Enjoy!
