BW Morning Trailer: The Orville Interactive Fan Experience

Messy Desk’s Discord

The project they’re talking about is a similar fan-produced experience touring the Enterprise for Star Trek: The Next Generation, until CBS intervened. (I think on their Facebook they mentioned it was because of actor likenesses, something they plan to avoid with The Orville. However, the person to most be concerned with about that is all in favor of this new venture.

Yep, Seth MacFarlane himself tweeted about the new project. Hopefully it will be a good one. Although I probably won’t be able to run it on this old computer and I can’t afford it anyway. (They can’t make a profit but they may have costs they can recoup through crowdfunding or something.) No word on a release date as far as I know but I’ve been out of it recently, which is why it took so long for me to post this after I found out about it.

Chapter By Chapter: Tom Clancy’s Op-Center chapters 83-85

First a programming note that will mean nothing to the archives but I have to do it. You may have noticed a few late posts the past few days. This is me trying to cope with the lingering side effects of a medication that’s been knocking me out. To that end there won’t be any posts on Wednesday and possibly even Thursday in an attempt to get back on schedule with both my sleep cycle and content production. Hopefully that will be all I need. Now on to the reason you’re here.

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

I should be annoyed with the fact that the three chapters of this week’s grouping are only two pages each but considering the above I’m willing to work with it rather than finish the book and call it a day. I want to at least have this up before midnight and it’s already Tuesday, 9:14 PM, BW Attic HQ as I write this, and it will be later by the time I’m done. Still, it’s kind of the problem with the way this book does chapters. I’m not against them trying something different but I personally don’t care for based on how I read for both fun and this article series. So I won’t bother listing the page count (since I just did) but here’s where we’re bouncing back and forth from in this section.

  • Chapter 83: Wednesday, 7:35 PM, Op-Center
  • Chapter 84: Wednesday, 9:36 AM, The Diamond Mountains
  • Chapter 85: Wednesday, 9:37 AM, The Diamond Mountains

They didn’t even change locations! It’s a minute later. What is the point? Anyway, I’m just going to read through all six pages and give my overall thoughts due to time and short pages.

BW’s Morning Article Link: The Trouble With Time Travel

One of the few running gags I have here at the Spotlight is the problem with time travel stories where messing about with time is the central theme as opposed to just using it as an excuse to set a story in the past or future. Time paradoxes, time travel theory, multiverse theory…it’s all very confusing and often very annoying. It’s convinced me that the only reason I know time travel will never happen is the fact we all still exist and having been wiped out of existence. Yet.

Author John C. Wright offers up a great commentary about the inherent problem with time travel stories, including his own, showing example of writers actually getting it right. I found this one through Bleeding Fool but I would rather link to the original so long as the website is usable.

2019 National Memorial Day Concert

For this year’s Memorial Day PBS livestreamed the 30th Annual National Memorial Day Concert, which I bring you tonight, in honor of those who sacrificed all that we could live free, as well as their families and friends who lost a loved one to keep America free. I hope you had a great Memorial Day and remembered the fallen.

By the way I know I missed today’s DC Comics DCAU comic review. I’ve been in recovery mode and will get to it next week.

BW’s Morning Website Link: All About Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day so this morning’s link is to a website all about Memorial Day and why it matters.
