Supergirl #21

Does not happen in this comic, but she does make some decent rescues.

Supergirl #21

DC Comics (August, 2013)

“Be Careful What You Wish For…”
WRITER: Michael Alan Nelson
PENCILER: Diogenes Neves
INKER: Richard Book
COLORIST: Dave McCaig
COVER ART: Mahmud Asrar with Daniel Brown
LETTERER: Rob Leigh
ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Rickey Purdin
GROUP EDITOR: Eddie Berganza

Between the crap she’s been through with Sanctuary and the Kryptonite poisoning, Supergirl takes a space cycle and heads out into space. There she comes across a group of aliens being attacked by another species of their metamorphic world. Kara is led to believe that they could easily rebuild Krypton, but what is the real goal of the cyborg that bears a striking resemblance to Superman?

What they got right: We learn a bit about Kara’s childhood and Kryptonian history. The rescue and fight scene (where she isn’t as angry as she is on the cover) is well done. The return of Cyborg Superman was the reason I picked this up and he appears to be involved with upcoming events.

What they got wrong: Said event is sadly a return of Krypton story. Again. This was announced and I can see where it starts from. I don’t know what Cyborg Supes is doing in this. Are they changing Hank’s motivation? Is it even still Hank Henshaw? All I know for sure is that his design is a mess compared to his pre-52 design.

Recommendation: I’m trying to decide if I’m going to get the next issue or not. I really don’t care about another New Krypton event since the pain of the last one is still fresh, but on it’s own merits it isn’t a bad comic. If you don’t have my hangups, give it a look.
