BW’s Morning Article Link: Drawing “The Game”

As part of a continuing article series at ICv2, a tabletop game creator is talking about creating their latest, currently untitled, game. In this article he discusses choosing the right artist based on the story and play style, looking at the diverse concepts of previous games his company has produced.

Jake & Leon #335: Webcomic – The Flow

Just when I thought I was done with this storyline it drags me back in.

What do you do when you have too many stories and not sure which one to begin with? Welcome to my brain.

Here we go, folks. The push to finally put Seduction Of The Innocent behind me. The next two weeks will be dedicated to finishing this review, with a wrap-up that should take ONE part at the end. I haven’t done that since the introduction. Then I go back to reading something fun for Chapter By Chapter.

And I know we just recently finished the whole Zero Hour thing, but next in my comic collection is a trade of the Superman story arc Time And Time Again so prepare for a whole lot of Superman, especially on the weeks when I do the Superman Adventures reviews. This storyline won’t take nearly as long, however. That’s it to report.

Saturday Night Showcase: Voltron, the Motion Comic

For the past few weeks we’ve peeked into the history of the Voltron franchise. We looked at the show that became Lion Voltron, and how it was altered for the US. We’ve met the Vehicle Team and watched the two Voltrons team up. We saw the Lion Voltron that became a cultural phenomenon get a second wave, reach the third dimension, and train the next generation, while an article outside this Voltronathon had already looked at the current incarnation although that video appears to be down now. And in side articles we looked at the abandoned Voltron and the replaced Voltron. So how do we end this series? With the reason this marathon of Voltron got started.

The Devil’s Due run on Voltron: Defender Of The Universe is an example of a reboot done right. It does its own thing but stays true to the characters and concepts that created a legion of fans. The stories are great and so is the artwork. As of our most recent review Sven is not himself, but it’s understandable given his character arc. But the comics I’ve reviewed up to this point did get an animated adaptation. “Animated” being a loose use of the word, mind you. Eagle One Media created a “motion comic”, a sort of animatic created from Dan Jolley and Marie Croall with the amazing artwork of Mike Norton, E.J. Su, and others and found voice actors to bring the story to life. Unfortunately as of this post I have not found the last two issue adaptations from the first story line, “Revelations”, but you have my reviews for that (I’ll link them under the video) and the full run of “Paradise Lost” is available and also in the playlist. Sadly this is where the adaptation ended as the stories that came after this, to my knowledge, was never adapted. It’s the only adaptation of this material so we might as well enjoy it, and if this plus my reviews do not get you to hunt down the comic (I recommend the Omnibus since it has all of the comics plus one that was never printed in floppy form) then I don’t know how else I can convince you.

Friday Night Fights: Falling Down Falling

This latest tournament has been under a summer theme, and I originally thought I wasn’t going to get 12 fights due to not knowing every fight in my collection. Fights are cool but it’s not the only think I look for in a comic. Some victories come without a punch or a laser. However, I managed to stick it out even if I didn’t win any of the rounds. Which is why despite a perfect fight for the “fall” theme of the Prize Fight, I’m saving it for a tournament I feel like I deserve a Prize Fight spot. This is more about promoting the fight and hoping others will join us in the next tournament, which hopefully won’t have a theme or will be one I can better equip myself for since I don’t want to be the buzzkill and everyone loves a good challenge except for the lazy people.

So let’s go to another fight you won’t be seeing the review for until tomorrow. As I said the theme is fall and the rules are that the fight has to end with the loser falling. But why not start with the hero falling, just not in the same way?

BW’s Morning Article Link: Libraries Like Comics Now

http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/bookshelf-inside-stockholm-public-library-royalty-free-image/169993375

There was a time when Dr. Wertham tried to get rid of comics, as I’ve been chronicling. Well, nowadays comics are finally getting the love they deserve. Here’s an article from the Oxford University Press’s blog (h/t to Four Color Media Monitor) about comics being collected by libraries, which namedrops the book. Now libraries are seeing the value in comics, and you can find comics from independent publishers like my Art Soundoff compatriots that you might not see in comic stores, so check those out. Just remember to bring them back on time.
