BW’s Morning Article Link: Starsky And Hutch Back On TV?

According To The Hollywood Reporter, Guardians Of The Galaxy director and scribe James Gunn is working on Sony’s attempted reboot of the classic ABC cop series Starsky & Hutch, and we can only hope this isn’t going to be a comedy like the movie was. The show did have a lot of humor, and that showed up in Guardians, but this is also the guy who did the live-action Scooby-Doo movie so all bets are off.

Pilot Review: Marvel’s Spider-Man

They still can’t bother with an intro! I told them to make a good intro!

I’m a bit behind here. I didn’t know the series was already launching. I thought it was a preview, like they did with Ducktales. Instead they’re already up to episode three and the first two episodes claim to be a two-part story but really isn’t. My review is on the first two episodes plus the online origin shorts, all of which you can watch at the playlist below (except episode two, which isn’t officially online) before getting into the review. Or just watch the review but there will be some minor spoilers.

Possibly to help push Spider-Man: Homecoming, although the movie’s been out over a month by now, Disney XD decided to create a brand new Spider-Man cartoon rather than continuing the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon that was already outdated from its comic counterpart. Marvel’s Spider-Man is a new take on Spider-Man. A very new take as you’ll see. But was it any good?

BW’s Morning Article Link: The Variant Cover Boycott

Or at least Marvel’s upcoming “lenticular” variant gimmick. ICv2 posted a statement from a comic store owner about why he ignored the lenticular covers before learning there was actually a boycott by other stores. Anything that leads to the end of variant covers is fine with me.

The Problem With A Joker Origin Movie

Last week I did a Morning Article Link announcing a new Joker movie by Martin Scorsese of all people, which appears to be an origin story for the Joker beyond “fell into chemicals, has skin bleached and hair turn green like the joker playing card, went insane”. I mentioned that I thought this was a bad idea since lacking an origin is an important part of the Joker’s character.

I thought I should expand on that but I’m trying to fit a lot into this week so I’ll use this video from Owen Loves Comics to get the important parts of why this is a bad idea and build on it. Plus I can promote this series to check out, so bonus for everyone!

“Yesterday’s” Comic> Starman #0

Yes, kids, he did choose a jacket, shades, and pants for his superhero costume. Can you say “lame”?

Starman #0

DC Comics (October, 1994)

“Sins Of The Father” part one: “Falling Star, Rising Sun”

Can I just say that “Sins Of The Father” has been used so often as a title they should just retire it. It’s practically a trope now! Almost literally.
