BW’s Morning Article Link: Black Lightning Where He Belongs

Black Lightning

CBR is reporting that the proposed Black Lightning series, based on the DC character is no longer going to be on Fox, which has ruined the supposed Batman origin series by having little to do with Batman giving us mostly unlikable characters. Instead the show is going where it should have, on the CW. It’s about time, as they seem to do a better job with DC heroes than anyone else not called Justice League Action nowadays. And that’s because I haven’t caught more episodes of Powerless. I’m forgetting everything that’s on lately. h/t to Galvanic for this info, as CBR is a hard site to use these days thanks to the site’s layout and auto-playing videos. And am I the only one tired of endlessly scrolling to the next article instead of ending the page?

Since they, for some reason, kept Supergirl in an alternate universe (where it was when the show aired on CBS) I wish they’d set Black Lightning’s show in that universe so Supergirl has more heroes to hang out with besides Martian Manhunter and occasionally Superman when the producers aren’t worried about him stealing the show. I think they also turned their version of Jimmy Olsen (a character no live-action version has ever gotten right for some reason–Adventures Of Superman being the closest) into the Guardian of that reality but I haven’t been able to follow this season for obvious reasons to anyone who has been here since 2016. So having another hero to cross over with that isn’t part of her supporting cast would be nice. Plus Supergirl’s universe seems to embrace sunlight more than her counterparts in the other universe.

Costume Versus Cosplay

The Green Goblin take on Casual Friday.

One of the things I love to record at conventions are the costumes. They’re a testament to a love of a character, whether they bought the costume, the patterns, or created their own. It’s not just a costume, it’s cosplay. You aren’t going out to get candy or dance as a character you like; this is a love for that character and holds a deeper meaning to the cosplayer.

On Facebook someone posted a series of screencaps from a TED talk by former Mythbuster Adam Savage, with a link to the video of Savage discussing his ties to cosplay and what he learned about it from walking around San Diego Comic Con as No Face, a character from the amazing anime film Spirited Away as well as his own love of wearing costumes, which he brought to the show.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Trouble For Star Trek Discovery?

James Harrington has recently posted a video to his blog by the group Midnight’s Edge (I need to look into them) discussing the latest news and rumors that is leading to a lot of problems for Star Trek: Discovery. If the rumor are true this isn’t going to be very Star Trek like and probably should be a new property. This what happens when people uninterested in the past media keep trying to recreate it.

Peter’s real plan was to divorce himself from Spider-Man, not Mary Jane.

Like Iron Man: The Legend this is not a comic but another profile book dedicated to one character. I guess this is what happens when Marvel decides they can’t keep the Official Handbooks current. Especially nowadays where “status quo” is such a hated thing that I don’t remember when they last had one yet they insist it must be shaken up. Every five seconds apparently, just like real life. Like just now the house down the street just spontaneously exploded…oh wait, it’s back as a brand new house. Darn life never the same from one moment to the next.

Chapter By Chapter> 1st Phase Shifters & The Omega Capsule ch.5

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Last time Crede went with his Earth friend Paul to a bar, where he was introduced to Morris Green, a man who helps NASA and took an odd interest in him. I also noted that each chapter starts with an image somehow related to the chapter and today’s features a stick figure that appears to be decapitated but after reading today’s chapter may actually be that he has his head on his foot. Time for a new visitor from T. DAK6. We must be the new tourist spot or something.
