BW’s Daily Video: Justice League’s Production Hell

Warning, there’s swearing in this one. I mean, the dude calls himself the Critical Drinker. Still, he puts together everything that went wrong behind the scenes with the cinematic cut of Justice League.

Catch more from The Critical Drinker on YouTube

After this I’d say #ReleaseTheWhedonCut would be in order so he could do the movie he wanted, but it’s not worth the money and given the bad blood between Whedon and the cast and how he got so much of the blame for Warner Brothers trying to undo Zack Snyder’s way too dark on DC I don’t think that would ever happen. Oddly I’ve never heard of the Avengers cast commenting on working with Joss Whedon, unless I missed it. Still wonder what would have happened if he had made HIS Justice League. Maybe just let the movie die before it becomes bogged down in cuts.

By the way, I did review this movie if you’re curious on my thoughts, while I have no interest in the Snyder Cut. I don’t like his take on the DC Universe. Instead of restoring the Snyderverse I’d rather he create his own superhero universe for his fans and let DC fans get the DCU we’d rather see.

Finally Watched…Green Lantern

Two more banked reviews to go. Typically I don’t care about live-action superheroes anymore. The “unreality” of comics and cartoons make a superhero world easier to accept than live-action, even with modern computer special effects. I think the big problem is that so many directors are afraid to embrace that, and even the MCU is starting to slide from those fun science fantasy worlds into being more “real world”, which isn’t as cool as you have to explain various powers that real world science tells us are completely impossible. The real world and imaginary world clash too much, and instead of the imaginary world giving us hints on how to be better in the real world, it seems the real world is invading and corrupting the imaginary world.

Still, I wanted to see if Green Lantern was really as terrible as so many on the internet claim. Granted my own thoughts when the movie came out were skeptical. The costume seemed unnecessarily sci-fi, Ryan Reynolds doesn’t come off as Hal Jordan given the roles he usually plays, and the aforementioned issue with live-action adaptations of comics. Movie-original superheroes can be tailored for live-action; animated, comics, and video game superheroes cannot. Still, there were parts of it that looked fun at the very least, something we don’t get from DC properties anymore. So why not give it a go and see if it lives up to the hate or if there’s actually something good here?

BW’s Daily Article Link: The Return Of The Doctor/Donna?

My favorite of the Tenth Doctor’s Companions was Donna Noble. Of the three main Companions she was the one who most tied him back to the “humanity” instilled in him by Ian and Barbara and seen throughout all his pre-Time War lives. Also David Tennant and Catherine Tate were so good on-screen together. Now apparently the two will be returning…not as the current Doctor and Companion, which is a good thing because the show shouldn’t be going backwards when respecting its past, and they have a new Doctor coming. Maybe he’ll team with the Doctor and Donna?

Multiple Doctor team-up stories are fun, though I’d like to see more of 10 and 11 joining forces. I just finished listening to “The Sirens Of Time”, the Big Finish audio team-up with 5, 6, and 7 and it’s a really good story. Not enough classic/new team-ups though.

As for the other part of the article, where they mention a trans person playing a character named Rose in that episode, I made a point about it on Twitter:

Really my only thought on the matter.

Free Comic Inside: Wonder Woman & The Star Riders

It’s time to return to Kellogg’s Cinnamon Mini Buns mini-comics. I didn’t eat that cereal because I was one of those kids who didn’t eat sugary cereals and of the few I tried in my older years oddly this wasn’t one of them despite my liking cinnamon buns. And yet I tried the Spider-Man cereal. I don’t understand me sometimes. This time I found the comic I wanted to review, as opposed to last time when I actually had to use a video for my review. However, this is one of those sites of questionable legality when it comes to comic posting, so I won’t be linking to it. Also I braved computer viruses on a few sites filled with annoying pop-up ads for your benefit. You’re welcome.

So this one was a bit different from the others. While all four featured DC heroes, the Wonder Woman story really didn’t follow the comics. Instead it was promotion for a toyline that was never made, Wonder Woman And The Star Riders. Basically we’re giving Diana a bunch of new friends and turning them into this:

Yes, complete with taking place in a magical realm apparently Diana sacrifices the power of the gods to become an American magical girl. That makes this comic harder to find than the other three because frankly it’s too silly not to have in your minicomic collection.

Wonder Woman And The Star Riders Vs. Purrsia has no credits and no title. This 1993 mini-comic is meant to introduce this version of Wonder Woman and her new friends, but I’m not expecting an origin story going into this one. Have a seat, folks. This should be…interesting.
