BW’s Daily Video: That Time Jimmy Olsen Was Fired (except he wasn’t)

Really, I wish more people talked about the Ruby-Spears Superman series.

Chapter By Chapter> BattleTech: I Am Jade Falcon chapter 8

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

In our last visit to the Falcons our heroine was demoted and given a terrible assignment, which just happened to coincide with the punk kid superior officer not getting his skidplate kissed by her. Today’s chapter will actually take us away from Sudeten to a new location. It’s actually very short, only 5 pages, but I’m also short on time today so that works out. Let’s meet some new players in this story.

BW’s Daily Christmas Song: Christmas Wrapping

I should do a Sing Me A Story on this one some year.

Jake & Leon #477: Leon’s Hopes For 2021

It’s like a New Year’s resolution for everyone else.

This year I’m opting for a New Year’s story arc instead of a Christmas one because we all want to get rid of this year and frankly I’m running out of Christmas ideas for the comic. Fizzbin’s already asked the good questions, Santa’s been involved twice, we did the Christmas tree hunt thing, and Jake met his family for Christmas (though that one got cut short when I got sick). There are maybe one or two other ideas but I think this will work for this year. There will be plenty of Christmas-themed posts scattered through the month to compensate.

Over at The Clutter Reports I decorated the studio for Christmas and forced a longer post than usual out of it because this year has had too many short posts and missed posts for my liking. As it is I think I leaned too heavily on videos this year here at the Spotlight.

As for this week, the next Chapter By Chapter review of BattleTech: I Am Jade Falcon is coming up, a Scanning My Collection tied to my Robotech comics (I messed up tie-in videos but at least I can do this), and I’m not really sure what else. Have a good week, folks!

Saturday Night Christmas Showcase: The Smurfs Christmas Special

It’s December again, so it’s time to break out the Christmas specials. You can see my full playlist on the homepage throughout December along with a post of Christmas music. So if you need some extra Yuletide cheer, check it out.

To begin this year’s installment I bring you 1982’s The Smurfs Christmas Special courtesy of the official Smurfs YouTube channel. When an evil man wants revenge, he enlists Gargamel’s aid in kidnapping the old man and his two grandchildren. When the Smurfs get involved, can they save Christmas for the family without revealing themselves? And how many people will Gargamel betray in his bid to destroy the Smurfs? This is the first of two Christmas specials from the original Hanna-Barbera series featuring the little blue people based on Peyo’s comics, some of which you’ll find reviews for here at the Spotlight. They would also make Christmas episodes. Further Christmas specials would be made but I don’t have access to them from legal sources. Enjoy.
