Finally Watched…Batman Vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

This may be one of the quickest turnovers in this article series. While I haven’t read the DC/IDW comic crossover due to my current financial situation (or lack thereof) the concept sounds pretty good. I think there are three crossovers plus a version that takes cues from Batman: The Animated Series and the 2012 cartoon. (I would have gone with the Fox Kids version of the Turtles as a nod to their shared network but nobody asked me.) It’s very popular but even then having Warner Brothers (who also owns Cartoon Network) and Nickelodeon team-up for this direct-to-video movie is rather surprising. I would love to know how they made that happen…and how we can get one with Daredevil in the style of the original comics. Turtles fans know why.

As a fan of both properties, and how rare cross-company crossovers are (even within the same animation studio it only happens in comedic shows like OK KO–I think the closest I’ve ever seen is the Mask/Ace Ventura crossover when both cartoons were on CBS or the anti-drug special Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue) and even rarer to see two comic properties team up in animated form I really wanted to see this, and Nickelodeon went ahead and aired the movie on Nicktoons, so I was able to see it. Was it worth the wait?

The Waltrip brothers took over both writing and drawing, with the two switching roles each issue. Academy apparently couldn’t hire the same number of creators for a comic Eternity did.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Harley Quinn versus Sonic The Hedgehog?

Sally’s, however, faired surprisingly well.

I stay out of the internet drama. In fact I pretty much just use Twitter to promote the site lately because of all the nonsense going on. (I do check to see if anyone likes, shares, or comments on something I posted though.) And I’m not invested in the Sonic The Hedgehog movie because I don’t want to see Sonic in the real world, even if I give them credit for fixing the character model after the fans complained. It’s nice to see someone in Hollywood want to make fans happy. It could end up being good for all I know and I’m not against seeing the movie at this time like I am Harley Quinn: Birds Of Prey or whatever the title is this hour.

Speaking of Harley Quinn and the poorly adapted Birds Of Prey it seems that fans of that movie who only care about the crazy goofiness and “girl power message” while not giving a fig about the source material or actual fans of the series have decided they don’t want the blue hedgehog’s movie to outshine their beloved movie and have opted to tell everyone just how sexist and homophobic the movie is. The movie does not come out until Friday but if you read the date of the article (Wednesday) apparently a lot of Harley Quinn fans have time machines. Also note how many time the exact same “review” came out in like four different tweets, word for word. At least you can make a comparison between Alita: Battle Angel and Captain Marvel beyond “comes out roughly the same time”. The article tries to explain why they targeted Sonic The Hedgehog and I still don’t get it.

The Emancipation Of The Birds Of Prey

There’s a swear in this trailer, just as a heads up.

Remember back when I talked about how the actors on DC Universe’s Titans defended their portrayal of the characters to the fans of the actual comic characters? It’s when I started to realize that the actors saw characters they really wanted to portray, had fun making the show, and really didn’t care about the comic books, because comics rank below animation (which they shoved into its own category at the Oscars because actors got butt-hurt that cartoons were getting Best Picture nods) but above video games (they’ve made good comic-adapted movies) in Hollywood’s tier of giving a fig. For exhibit B I give you Margot Robbie, who was so in love with her rendition of Harley Quinn in the much-hated Suicide Squad movie that she talked Warner Brothers into giving her a movie of her own, and the WB as well as Geoff Johns (who they put in charge of fixing the DCEU movies…then blamed him and his partner for the issues with Justice League and sent them off) were convinced she’d be the break out star. She was the only thing folks liked, although her portrayal and the way she was written were not quite a match to the beloved character.

Robbie felt there weren’t enough movies about a “girl gang”, although frankly I’d say we have too many since I don’t care about movies about criminals whatever their gender is. Didn’t they had two of them last year. However, Birds Of Prey (Or The Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) had two things going against it. One is that it’s a Harley Quinn movie and not a Birds Of Prey movie (and the name was just recently changed–while in theaters no less–to Harley Quinn: Birds Of Prey) and the other is that the movie has terrible renditions of these characters. I haven’t seen the movie so I can’t comment on the quality of the performance or writing; I’m talking about major adaptation errors. Instead she blamed men for not going to see a movie where men are all evil and her team of punk chicks were examples of true femininity, which also didn’t sit well with enough women moviegoers to make up the difference. All we wanted were proper adaptations of the characters. The Birds Of Prey comic, featuring an all-women group of Gotham City heroes, is very well enjoyed, and I liked the TV show despite its own adaptation errors. However, tell me if what you saw in the trailer matches anyone in the descriptions below. I’m betting no.

Star Wars: Underworld Test Footage Leaked

I am a week behind in my YouTube subscriptions. That means I’d wager most of you have already seen this, but for those who haven’t test footage was recently leaked for Star Wars: Underworld, a planned live-action TV series that would take place between the first two trilogies. I remember back when the Lucasfilm The Clone Wars cartoon came out there was talk of doing a live-action series and if memory serves we thought The Clone Wars was going to be it and some fans were disappointed it was a cartoon…until it came out and slowly won them over. I could be remembering this wrong however, so don’t quote me on this. Underworld was announced in 2005, but the technology wasn’t there on a TV budget so nobody wanted to fund it. The Clone Wars came out in 2008.

The footage was created by Stargate Studios, who did the special effects. This video was a sort of proof of concept, to show what they could do. According to Wikipedia (question the source) they’ve worked on such diverse body of works as Doctor Who, the 2008 remake of Knight Rider that was canceled just after they finally started doing it right, and the Walking Dead shows on AMC, but also stuff like Grey’s Anatomy, Parks And Recreation, and one of the Degrassi High series. I don’t know where the leak came from but this gives us a idea of the look of the show, set on Corsucant but going by the Star Wars fan wiki there isn’t a lot known about it. Depending on what happens on YouTube the video I found not only contains the test footage but some on-set recordings of the work on a green screen set. We’ll talk more in a moment.
