BW’s Morning Article Link: Getting To Talk About Your Fav Movie

Wolfman’s Got Nards is a documentary about the creation and cult following of the 1987 film The Monster Squad, about a group of potty-mouthed kids that end up having to fight the Universal Monster analogs attacking their hometown. I never really got into it myself because the monsters that interest me either smash buildings, fight teens in not-spandex, or teach spelling while doing preschool-friendly parodies. However, my friend Shawn Robare of Branded In The 80s calls it his favorite movie and got to be part of the documentary. I wonder if lack of merchandise would keep me out of a documentary about my favorite movie, The NeverEnding Story?

The 2 Joker Controversies (and how they demonstrate bad comics perception)

Let me start by saying that I am not trying to make light of the concerns of the Aurora shooting victims and their loved ones, either by connecting them to Todd Philips’ snobbery or by making more commentary on how comics are looked down upon. However, you don’t have to be Dirk Gently to see how all of this is connected.

“All of this” refers to recently quoted remarks by Todd Phillips about how he approached his Joker movie and why he ignored the comics, while also having what I feel is a big misunderstanding about how Heath Ledger’s Joker, also not an accurate depiction, connects to James Holmes, who shot up an Aurora, Colorado movie theater during a showing of The Dark Knight, where we were told he was inspired by the Joker, either of that movie or the character in general. I fully understand that theater not wanting to show the Joker movie because of that incident and I’m not calling them out for it. I’m not even calling out the families of the victims. However, a better understanding of the character, which you won’t be getting from Phillips’ re-imagining of The King Of Comedy by using the DC villain, is in order lest we continue the mistaken belief that this movie or that video game is to blame for any non-politically motivated mass shooting that occurs. Sometimes we make media the scapegoat because it’s easier than addressing the actual problems.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Where Does Ad Music Come From

Ever curious about where advertisers get their music? Here’s a Variety article about one of the companies responsible.

Five Cancelled DC Movies

So there’s the trailer for the new Harley Quinn movie. I don’t know where this Birds Of Prey trailer is I’ve been hearing about thought. Margot Robbie’s ego moment seems to have pushed them all aside and what they’ve done to Cassandra Cain and Huntress is just insulting to them both in just the bits we’ve seen. Huntress isn’t wearing her costume and you can already tell Cass is lacking her proper personality and is just Harley lite. Black Mask doesn’t even wear his mask, making his name meaningless. They probably should have gone with an original villain, but it’s not like they care anymore.

Somehow this got through but considering how many DC movies have sometimes never gotten TO the scripting stage, never mind past it, this is one of the lucky ones. Not lucky for fans of anyone who isn’t Harley but lucky just the same. Midnight’s Edge looks at a group of movies that were planned but didn’t get made.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Power Rangers/Ninja Turtle Crossover Preview

It’s starting to look like the Ninja Turtles will crossover with anyone. You’d already had Batman and Ghostbusters and one more I’m forgetting. Now we have a preview for the crossover with Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers (because heaven forbid we make a comic about the CURRENT Ranger team), who have been on their own crossover tour as of late. What’s next, My Little Pony?

It’s My Little Pony, isn’t it? The question is whether the Turtles or the Rangers will get there first. And will the Rangers get their turn with Archie?
