BW’s Morning Article Link: George Pérez Versus Corporate Superheroes

If you were here for my reviews of the New 52 Superman written by George Pérez you know I was rather critical of the whole run. These were not good stories, but if what the man now says is true I might have been a bit harsh on him. These were the first stories I saw of him as writer although I have nothing but praise for his artwork. He’s truly one of the best in the business but corporate meddling during his Superman run ended running him out of the genre. One complaint I have heard him mention elsewhere is that whatever Grant Morrison was doing on the origin years Pérez was not informed and couldn’t keep up. It’s a shame he was scuttled, but I do wonder if what he was actually writing was any better? Although given how DiDio’s ran this sinking ship I wouldn’t be surprised if he telling the truth.

Jake & Leon #415: Happy Birthday Off

Wouldn’t that mean a week without pay. I miss too many comics already.

That’s why there were no posts yesterday. I was busy turning 46 years old. And indeed yesterday I organized papers, as mentioned in this week’s Clutter Report.

If there are no distractions this week I would like to get to another Finally Watched, and I may have a BW Pilot Review for the new Scooby-Doo cartoon, but I want to see another episode or two in the hopes it gets better. I was not impressed with the first episode. We have yet another Robotech comic from the Academy Comics years taking place before and after the next Macross Saga issue we need to look at, and I’m trying to remember what happened to the third issue of that miniseries. I think I have it. You never can tell with my collection. A huge organizing project and it’s still got problems. Let’s see what happens this week.

Extra Credits Versus The Nazis

I still haven’t taken a screenshot of the new logo, have I? They haven’t been with The Escapist for years.

Extra Credits is a channel and show I promote often since they have interesting topics for filler posts or occasionally something I build an article and commentary of my own around. I also enjoy their spin-off shows Extra Sci-Fi and  Extra Mythology thought I don’t really follow Extra History. I still enjoy the channel and encourage everyone to check it out.

However, a recent episode has gotten them in hot water with even their own audience. In the episode “Stop Normalizing Nazis–Socially Conscious Game Design” the team took to task games where you play as Nazis and terrorists in multiplayer, or at least when you don’t have the choice to. I do understand the backlash and both sides of this issue aren’t completely wrong. Let’s see what they actually said and then see how they responded.

BW’s Morning Article Link: K-9 Returns

Why do I not have more K9 images in my media library?

I liked the Australian K9 series well enough but I would like to see a definitely-set-in-Whoniverse series that isn’t K9 And Company get made. According to The Mirror it looks like I may be getting my wish. The Australian series got John Leeson so I hope the new series does as well. My favorite Companion should keep his proper voice for as long as they can get him.

Why Did The MCU Spidey Movies Mess Up The Lore? Licensing!

Remember we looked at the crazy Star Trek licensing and why both the CBS and Movie versions were so off? And remember my Finally Watched review of Spider-Man: Homecoming where I talked about how wrong the lore was? Turns out they’re more alike than I realized.

Oh, it’s not the SAME thing, but licensing apparently is playing a part in why the Spidey-lore was all messed up just like with the Star Trek continuity. Yes, there’s a reason MJ isn’t Mary Jane, why Ned is nothing like his old self, and sexy hippie Aunt May is more like a better version of that terrible romance comic Marvel put out once than our sweet, doting aunt.

I honestly don’t know what doting means. I just really love this scene.

As usual the team at Midnight’s Edge uses their investigative powers to uncover just why the MCU Spidey gets Peter’s personality right and not much else as well as going through all the talk surrounding what is going on with the confusing Sony/Marvel Studios joint production because Sony doesn’t want to lose a license they only got right three times out of six. (And that’s counting Into The Spiderverse.)
