The Corridor Crew Versus The Star Wars Prequel VFX [VIDEO]

Industrial Light & Magic was created for Star Wars. Literally. George Lucas created the company to innovate special effects to make his movie look the way he wanted it. There were a few limitations, which would lead to the Special Edition edits a couple of decades later, but that’s what they were designed for, going on to do other movies afterwards.

What the prequel trilogy lacked in dialog and performance didn’t change the innovations in the new field of computer effects that were made in the three films. Some of them are amazing and hold up, while others kind of don’t. YouTube VFX stars The Corridor Crew takes a look at these effects to see what still looks amazing and what they screwed up.

BW’s Morning Article Link: New Comic Library Helps Kids Make Comics

CBR (formerly known as Comic Book Resources but now they talk about too many other stuff on top) has an article about loot (it appears to be spelled lower case–because poor literacy is kewl). This library in Brooklyn, New York may charge a monthly fee to borrow comics like a library and even allows purchase for $5–although I have to ask what if the comic is worth less than that elsewhere?–but it also works with kids to create and sell their own comics. I have to give credit for helping create the next generation of comic makers and hopefully making comic creation fun.

The Declaration Of Independence–As Reviewed By An English Teacher

Today is July Fourth, usually referred to as the Fourth Of July. There are picnics and fireworks and celebrations, but too many seem to forget or not really think about the actual name of the holiday: Independence Day. This is the day when the group of twelve colonies that would become the United States Of America had enough of King George’s nonsense and told him to kiss off, that we would be independent of British rule and form a nation by, of, and for the people. I like to celebrate each Independence Day here at the Spotlight by doing something around the document that made that declaration, fittingly referred to as the Declaration Of Independence.

This year I found something unique, a breakdown of the document not by historians but by an English teacher running a class through YouTube. Anne Babson goes over the Declaration and why she is discussing it with her English class. I don’t know what grade she teaches and you may not agree with all of her perspectives in the specific sense (although she does her best not to get politically heavy or betray her point of view) but she makes a good broad examination of it for a literature perspective and that’s what I find interesting. Hope you all had a great July 4th regardless of what you did today. (That’s for the benefit of the non-US readers out there. My stats tell me you’re out there.)

BW’s Morning Article Link: Gremlins Prequel Cartoon Announced

Gremlins was a really good movie. Gremlins 2: The New Batch is an okay movie but fun to watch. However there really haven been many spinoffs or sequels to this franchise. WarnerMedia is planning to do something about it with a new prequel cartoon, about how Gizmo first met the shopkeeper. I’ve seen complaints that it isn’t another movie or that the creator isn’t involved but I like the concept. It could work. It could also be the Karate Kid cartoon, but where it failed in adaptation (which is still closer than all these re-imaginings you get nowadays) it made up for in being a fair watch. Unfortunately it will be for their streaming service, which will probably be subscription only and thus I’ll never see it.
