Last night we were talking about comic fandom and comic distribution among other issues with getting comics to people and finding new readers. One thing brought up was the fact that casual readers have no way to find comics without going to a comic store. Fandoms like to lock themselves in these small groups and keep the “normals” out. Well, here’s an article that makes the case that there are no “normies”, just people who aren’t as diehard a fan but still enjoy, say Godzilla or Star Wars without knowing the minute details or dressing up in costumes. As for the term “true fan”, smack yourself for every time you’ve used it and meant it because it’s a load of bull. You can be a true fan without knowing what the Doctor had for breakfast in episode 16.

Fans come in all varieties and levels. There is no such thing as an “ultimate true fan”.
