A Jake & Leon Christmas

Posted December 25, 2009

In the first year of the comic, only a few months old, I decided to do something fun for Christmas. A Jake & Leon Christmas so heavily borrows from a segment in a Sesame Street Christmas special that I call it out in the comic. (They may have also borrowed it from a different telling, just using Bert, Ernie, and the late Mr. Hooper.) After this I just did special Christmas storylines in the regular comic and focused on making my Christmas superhero comic, Captain Yuletide, which you can find in the BW Comics & Art archive.

Beth had shown up in one of the comics, originally a one-shot character, but I decided to use her here, giving her a name and parents. Bill and Meredith would become part of the main cast. Bill is the “stage manager” and Meredith makes the “sets”. Jake’s artist occupation was also, if memory serves, introduced in this special. Afterwards I would fill out the cast in the main comic with Max, Jake’s collaborator and the comic’s promotional manager, and Fizzbin, the alien from planet France that does the IT for the studio.
